Novak Djokovic‘s Prime Video documentary, Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter, was released on Thursday (August 20), prior to which he gave interviews to several media outlets, opening up about his private as well as professional life.
One such interview he gave was to Sport, a Spanish newspaper. One of the questions was whether he had any regrets about certain things he wished he could have done differently.
I don’t regret anything. Life is made of all kinds of experiences and circumstances that happen for a reason and with a purpose. I wouldn’t change anything. I have always tried to act in my life with the best intentions for myself and for others at every moment, and I did what I could at that time. They weren’t always the wisest options and choices, but they are all things that shaped my life, my character, and the person I am today.
Novak Djokovic said
Djokovic, 39, is still challenging the youngsters and is still chasing history. He doesn’t want to call time on his career in the near future as he dreams of playing the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and retiring while holding the Serbian flag.
The last time Djokovic competed on the tour was in the ongoing Cincinnati Masters. He struggled physically from the very first set and eventually lost in three sets to Thiago Agustin Tirante.
He will next be playing the US Open, the singles main draw of which starts on August 30. But before starting his singles campaign, he will be playing the mixed doubles with Aryna Sabalenka.
Djokovic, who has so far played just six tournaments this season, has reached just one final, at the Australian Open. After stunning two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner in five sets in the semifinals, Djokovic lost in four sets to Carlos Alcaraz in the final, and this made the Spaniard the youngest man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam.
Andre Agassi makes villain remarks about Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic, like many other athletes, has made mistakes and behaved in a way not considered proper while playing. But the media, according to Andre Agassi, portrayed the 24-time Grand Slam champion as a villain.

I don’t feel that Djokovic has been valued anywhere near as much as he deserves for what he’s contributed to tennis. No one can match what he’s achieved. It’s as clear as water. He’s the greatest of all time. I think that, despite being the best in history, the GOAT, for obvious reasons, none of this is recognized globally.
Andre Agassi said in Novak Djokovic’s Prime Video documentary
Djokovic himself has often talked about feeling like an “unwanted child” during the era defined by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, and that he did not get the love and admiration from the fans the way his two old rivals were showered with.
Ask yourselves why. The press, for years and years, has always taken his statements out of context, sold him as the villain of the movie, and that has affected how people perceive him. He, like many others, has made mistakes and committed his errors, but while others’ were overlooked, his were sold with fanfare and alarms so everyone could see them. For there to be a good guy, there always has to be a bad guy, and Djokovic drew the short straw as the villain.
Andre Agassi added
Djokovic last clinched a title at the 2025 Hellenic Championship. At the US Open, Djokovic will be chasing his fourth title in the tournament, last winning in 2023. Last year, he lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal.
