Kevin Durant is coming off his 18th season in the NBA. While he posted impressive numbers in his first season for the Houston Rockets, they saw an early end to their 2025-26 campaign after getting eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.

However, Durant was still making headlines during the playoffs off the court. In June, he was seen leaving Nobu Malibu with an unidentified woman. The Daily Mail first reported the outing.

The spotlight was on the two-time champion, as he is known for staying away from the public eye. He keeps his personal life as private as possible. However, the viral photos showed him standing behind a bush outside the restaurant.

When asked about the photos of him hiding behind a bush, Durant addressed it directly and pushed back on the idea that he was ducking the cameras at all.

You thought I was hiding behind a bush? This is insane. Why would I hide behind a bush? It looked like I was, and then the headline was just crazy. But I don’t need to hide, no. I was coming out of Nobu, and it’s like this tall grassy fence or whatever. I’m coming out just like everybody else.

When the photos of him leaving Nobu Malibu were released to the public, speculation regarding his personal life began making the rounds. While Durant did not give any information about the mystery woman, he claimed that he had no reason to hide.

His statements made it clear that he was not trying to hide from the cameras. However, speculation about the mystery woman may continue, as he did not say who she was, and the Daily Mail did not name her either.

Kevin Durant found the rumors of him hiding funny

Rumors about Durant’s personal life spread quickly, as there has been no information about his dating life. He did reveal in the past that he does not want a girlfriend and prefers to focus and live in the moment. He has been linked to former WNBA player Liz Cambage in the past but nothing else in the past year or so.

However, Durant found the viral photos and speculation funny when he saw them online.

First of all, I wouldn’t have went to Nobu then because Nobu is the paparazzi capital. I didn’t laugh at first because it was like ‘No, I wasn’t hiding’ and it has picked up so much steam after a while, I was like ‘It is kinda funny’.

Durant found the photos funny and later credited the photographer for a good shot because it did look like he was hiding behind a bush. But it is good to see the 37-year-old set the record straight and call the media narrative completely false.

Kevin Durant on international players taking over the NBA

Over the last decade, there has been a narrative that international players are taking over the NBA. Since James Harden won the MVP award in the 2017-18 season, all eight winners have been international players, with Canadian international Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, winning the MVP last season.

Kevin Durant weighed in on the narrative that international players are taking over the NBA.

It’s about time. They been coming into the league since the 80s. The real arguments should be who are they influenced by? Most of these dudes are influenced by who? Americans. It’s cool getting MVPs and stuff but who did you watch? You see Jokic, Porzingis, Shai, all these dudes with Iverson jerseys coming up.

Durant backed his comments about American influence by giving SGA as an example. While SGA may be from Canada, he made it to the NBA through the American system, as he spent his high school and college years in the US.

The game has expanded globally. But the overall argument of Durant is that the game should still be viewed as American, as it is the American stars who have influenced the international stars by globalizing the NBA.
