Carlos Alcaraz shared his strong reaction to Novak Djokovic‘s shocking early exit from the tournament, admitting that watching the fifth set unfold was completely unexpected. He pointed out that this marked the very first time Djokovic has ever lost in the opening round of the U.S. Open throughout his legendary career.

The Spanish star emphasized that seeing a competitor of Djokovic’s caliber go out at the very first hurdle came as a massive surprise to everyone in the tennis world. He noted that every single Grand Slam tournament presents immense challenges, and getting through each round safely is remarkably difficult.

I saw the 5th set. Obviously it was the first time Novak lost in the 1st round here in this tournament. So it’s a big surprise to be honest. Someone like Novak going out in the tournament in the 1st round is surprising. But here, every Grand Slam, it’s really difficult to get through every round. Every player is really tough. You have to earn the win since the first ball until the last one. As you said, he was in my part of the draw, but it would’ve been in the semis. For me the semis are still far away. I just try to be round by round.

Reflecting on the sport’s competitive depth, Alcaraz stressed that every player competing on the major stage is genuinely tough to beat. He explained that competitors must earn every single victory on the court, from the very first ball to the final point.

Addressing the bracket layout, Alcaraz acknowledged that Djokovic had been placed in his half of the draw, though they would have only squared off in the semi-finals. He maintained that the semi-final stage was still far too distant to worry about, preferring to focus entirely on taking things one round at a time.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Win at the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz successfully returned to singles competition by defeating Roman Safiullin in straight sets with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Arthur Ashe Stadium. This opening-round victory marked his first official singles match following a lengthy absence caused by a right-wrist injury and subsequent tenosynovitis.

The defending champion spent just over two hours on the court to secure his progression into the next phase of the tournament. His successful return reassured fans about his current physical condition after missing major portions of the tennis calendar, including the French Open and Wimbledon.

Alcaraz recorded a total of 18 games won while successfully converting four out of seven break points during the encounter. His first-serve percentage stood at 68 percent, allowing him to dominate crucial rallies against his opponent.

The second-seeded Spaniard advanced to face Jaime Faria in the second round of the tournament. His coaching staff monitored his physical workload closely to ensure optimal recovery between matches.

Novak Djokovic’s Loss at the US Open

Novak Djokovic suffered a stunning first-round defeat to Mariano Navone in a grueling five-set encounter that lasted several hours. The 24-time major champion struggled heavily with physical ailments throughout the match, receiving medical attention and appearing visibly distressed on the court.

This unexpected loss ended a remarkable streak where Djokovic had not exited a Grand Slam tournament at the opening hurdle since the 2006 Australian Open. Navone capitalized on the deteriorating physical condition of the Serbian star to close out the match with decisive margins in the final two sets.

Djokovic won the second and third sets by scores of 7-5 and 6-4 after losing a tight opening-set tiebreak. However, his physical stamina faded rapidly as Navone claimed the fourth and fifth sets 6-2 and 6-1 to complete the monumental upset.

The defeat marked one of the earliest exits of Djokovic’s illustrious career at Flushing Meadows. Statistical analysis of the match showed that physical exhaustion severely limited his mobility in the closing stages of the contest.
