Duncan Robinson was an undrafted player when he entered the NBA draft in 2018. However, he signed an NBA Summer League contract with the Miami Heat, which later earned him a two-way contract.

The Heat are well known for getting the best out of undrafted players and maximizing their potential. And it was no different with Robinson.

After making just 15 appearances in his debut season, Robinson ended up playing seven seasons for the Heat. During his stint, he became one of the league’s best three-point shooters. Being a volume shooter, he makes 40% of his three-pointers in his career.

Max Strus played three seasons alongside Robinson during his time with the Heat from 2020 to 2023. When asked who is the better shooter between him and Robinson, Strus put his former teammate in the same territory as Stephen Curry.

Duncan’s got it. One of the best I’ve ever seen. I think he’s up there with Steph Curry to be honest with you. Phenomenal.

Just like Robinson, Max Strus was an undrafted player as well and made a name for himself through his three-point shooting prowess. He is a clutch shooter and has had some memorable moments in the playoffs during his career, but he does not see himself anywhere near Robinson.

In fact, putting Robinson in the same tier as Stephen Curry in terms of shooting is the highest form of praise possible. Curry is undoubtedly the greatest shooter and one of the greatest players of all time. He changed basketball forever and is the only player in NBA history to breach the 4000-mark in three-pointers made.

Curry currently sits at the top with 4,248 three-pointers. While Robinson may never catch up with Curry, he set several three-point shooting records with the Heat. However, recent Heat signing Klay Thompson has his eyes set on Robinson’s franchise records.

Duncan Robinson took Max Strus under his wing in Miami

Both Strus and Duncan Robinson played instrumental roles when the Heat reached the NBA Finals in 2023. Strus signed with the Heat after an ACL tear cut short his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls. Robinson helped Strus settle into the locker room, and they became good friends later.

Strus credited the 32-year-old for his improved shooting and for helping him become a better player.

He motivated me to be like a better shooter… credit to Duncan like he took me under his wing as the minute I got there. He was great for my career and um one of the best I’ve ever seen shoot the basketball.

Robinson helped Strus improve his footwork and shooting. While he does not have the same efficiency as Robinson, Strus is a career 37% three-point shooter for his career.

However, placing Robinson in the same tier as Curry feels far-fetched. The four-time champion can create his own shots, fire from deep range, and force defenses to react before he even reaches the ball. Hence, it is possible that Strus was comfortable putting Robinson near Curry, as they share a good relationship with each other.

Max Strus on Cleveland Cavaliers’ run last season

Strus missed the first few months of last season after undergoing surgery for his broken foot. He returned toward the end of the regular season and played in 12 games before the playoffs.

The expectations surrounding the Cleveland Cavaliers were very high last season after they traded for James Harden at the trade deadline. The move was a sign that they were going all in for a championship this year. Unfortunately, they ended up getting clean swept by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Speaking on their run last season, Strus felt it was special despite the disappointing end.

Being able to win two series in a Game 7 was pretty special. I think that people undermine that a little bit.

The Cavs went through two seven-game series against the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons in the first two rounds. It was their first Conference Finals since 2018. However, if the Cavs are looking for a better finish next year, it will have to be without Strus as the 30-year-old was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in the summer.
