Coco Gauff vs. Mirra Andreeva: Match Preview
Before arriving at Flushing Meadows, Coco Gauff ended her title drought by defeating Jessica Pegula in the Cincinnati Open final. It was her first title since her win at the 2025 Wuhan Open. She is chasing her career’s eighth Big Title in the New York Major.

Before the tournament in Ohio, Gauff had made two finals, at the Miami Open (lost to Aryna Sabalenka) and at the Italian Open (lost to Elina Svitolina). Gauff is a former champion at the US Open, winning it in 2023 against Sabalenka. The 22-year-old clinched her second Grand Slam singles title at last year’s French Open by again defeating the four-time Grand Slam singles champion.
Gauff will be playing the quarterfinal of a Major for the third time this season. The only Slam where she failed to reach the last eight was at the French Open, where she competed as the defending champion. A player who had never won a Major took home the trophy at the clay-court Grand Slam, and it was none other than Mirra Andreeva.
Andreeva, who, before this season, had made just one Grand Slam semifinal, upset Maja Chwalinska and won her career’s third Big Title following last year’s Dubai Tennis Championships and the Indian Wells Open.
The 19-year-old won her third title of the season in her fourth final. Earlier this year, Andreeva beat Victoria Mboko in the Adelaide International final, before defeating Anastasia Potapova in the Linz Open final.
She then lost the Madrid Open final to Marta Kostyuk. In Melbourne and at Wimbledon, she exited after reaching the fourth round and second round, respectively.
Coco Gauff vs. Mirra Andreeva: Match Prediction
Gauff, after winning the US Open in 2023, made the fourth round the following season and suffered a third-round exit last year. Andreeva, however, had never made it past the third round of this Slam before this season, reaching this stage last year. Gauff has met Andreeva five times, winning them all. They will be facing each other for the second time this season, following the quarterfinals of the Rome event.

The winner of the Gauff versus Andreeva will square off against 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist Qinwen Zheng or two-time Grand Slam champion Elena Rybakina, who is chasing her second Grand Slam title of the season following the Australian Open win.
If the World No.2 fails to defeat Zheng in the quarterfinals and Gauff clinches her second title here, the latter will reach her career-best ranking of No.1. Countrywoman Jessica Pegula will also become No.1 if she wins the title and Rybakina crashes out before reaching the semifinals.
Sabalenka is bidding to complete the three-peat. She will only finish the event ranked No.1 if she wins the title and Rybakina loses to Zheng. Rybakina will become No.1 if she beats Zheng.
Match prediction: Coco Gauff to win in three sets.
