Angel Reese is coming off a gold medal at the FIBA World Cup. While she came off the bench in all six games for Team USA, she played a vital role in leading the second unit in the tournament.

After her time with Team USA, she is back in the WNBA from where she left off. She was the star of the show Thursday night as the Atlanta Dream delivered a 103-59 thrashing of the Connecticut Sun at The Gateway Center Arena.

The Dream and Reese were at their best on Thursday, posting their eighth win in their last 10 games. The win saw them climb to fourth place in the WNBA standings with a 27-14 record. Meanwhile, the Sun sit in 14th place in the standings.

Reese is having her best individual season in her debut season for Dream. The former seventh pick was traded to the Dream from the Chicago Sky this summer. She is currently averaging a career-high 16.5 points and 12.4 rebounds in 40 appearances this season.

On Thursday night, she recorded her 30th double-double of the season. She recorded 30 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks in an all-around display against the Sun.

Reese has broken a few records this season and shows no signs of slowing down as the postseason approaches. With their playoff spot guaranteed, she will play her first-ever postseason this year.

She was efficient from the field, making 11 of 14 field goals. She now also holds the record for playing the fewest minutes while recording a 30-point, 10-rebound game, as she played just 25 minutes on Thursday.

The Sky drafted Reese with the seventh pick in the 2024 WNBA draft. She made a mark in the WNBA in her rookie season and was named a WNBA All-Star. But it looks like she is taking the next step in her third WNBA campaign.

Following her historic performance against the Sun, WNBA fans were buzzing all across social media.

Fans were left ecstatic after her incredible performance. She has shown significant improvement this season and has turned the Dream into a legitimate title contender heading into the playoffs.

Her performances on the defensive end of the court have seen her become a strong contender to win the Defensive Player of the Year award. Reese’s masterclass on Thursday saw her record her 30th double-double and hold the record for most double-doubles in a single WNBA season.

WNBA legend and four-time champion Tina Thompson believes the 24-year-old should be on the list of MVP candidates after her performances for the Dream this season.

I think Angel needs to be in [the MVP] conversation. What Angel Reese does, it impacts winning.

While Reese was one of five Dream players to score in double digits, she was the only one to score more than 10 points against the Sun. Such is her impact on the team this season. Thompson believes she deserves to be in the MVP race as the regular season comes to a close.
