The New York Yankees’ 2026 season came to an end on Wednesday night. They lost 4-3 in Game 3 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) and got swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. Junior Caminero brutally trolled the Bronx Bombers with a familiar taunt following his team’s success.
The Aaron Boone-led side had a huge mountain to climb in Game 3. After losing Games 1 and 2, they were 0-2 down in the best-of-five division series and needed a huge turnaround at Yankee Stadium.
After two scoreless innings, the two teams traded blows in the 3rd and 4th innings. The Rays took the lead in the top of the 3rd inning through a sharp single by Jonathan Aranda.
Ben Rice, who had been the Yankees’ offensive hero this postseason, got them level with a single in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Ryan Vilade hit a solo home run in the 4th inning to put the Rays back on top. Spencer Jones then came through for the Yankees and hit a double in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 2-2.
The biggest moment of the game came in the 6th inning when the Yankees were down 4-2. Victor Mesa Jr. had put the Rays back in front in the top of the inning with a 2-run home run. Anthony Volpe seemed to have tied the game with a 2-run home run of his own to left field.
However, the call was later overturned and ruled as fan interference. This led to George Lombard Jr. scoring from first while Volpe was placed at 2nd base.

In the end, the Rays emerged as 4-3 winners and completed the sweep of their division rivals. With this win, they moved on to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) and eliminated the Yankees from the postseason.

As the Rays celebrated on the field, Junior Caminero trolled the Yankees. The third baseman, who has been one of the top performers for his team this season, took a page out of David Ortiz‘s book and shouted “Da Yankees Lose” (The Yankees Lose).

Late broadcaster John Sterling usually shouted “The Yankees Win” whenever the New York side won a game. Ortiz twisted this signature call of Sterling and made it, “The Yankees Lose.” He has often taken a shot at his ex-rivals with it.
Last year, it was he and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who mocked them with this chant. Caminero used this taunt again in the locker room as he celebrated with his teammates.

Unfortunately for the Yankees, this marks a second straight year in which they lost in the division series. The wait for title No.28 goes on.
Aaron Boone claims Yankees clubhouse is broken after ALDS heartbreak
For a 3rd straight season, an opposing team was celebrating at Yankee Stadium as the New York Yankees were eliminated from the postseason. The 4-3 loss in Game 3 saw them get swept 3-0 in the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays. Aaron Boone later claimed that the clubhouse was broken.

The Yankees, who entered the postseason without their captain, Aaron Judge, fell into a major hole after losing Games 1 and 2. No team had come back from a 0-2 deficit in a best-of-five series since 2017.
The fan-interference call on Anthony Volpe’s home run became a huge moment. Had it been a home run, the game would have been tied at 4-4, and who knows what would have happened next. There will be a lot of what-ifs. The important part is that the Yankees were second-best in the entire series.
There’s just no easy way. It’s a broken clubhouse. It’s what you go through as a team, as a family over the last eight, nine months getting ready for this, and there’s just, it’s the worst.

So what happens to Boone now? Another playoff failure has once again raised questions regarding his future. It is going to be another long offseason for his team.
As for the Rays, they will now play in their 3rd ALCS and take on either the Chicago White Sox or the Cleveland Guardians. They have advanced to the World Series in both of their previous appearances.
As for the National League, there will be a rematch, as the Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers both won Game 4 and won the NLDS 3-1 against the San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves, respectively.
