In the second half of the 2026 WNBA season, Angel Reese proved she could back up her claims of being one of the league’s best young players.
Until then, fans were only pointing out her flaws. Whether it was missing easy under-the-basket layups, avoiding passing it to teammates, or even her lack of awareness in certain situations.
Time and again, her supporters said the Chicago Sky and their stale game plans were the problem. Two coaches in two years couldn’t make her anything more than a rebounding phenom.
Then came her time with the Atlanta Dream, and still there were question marks. But the 24-year-old worked on her game, improving steadily across the board.
In Berlin, with the USA Basketball contingent, she displayed her defensive capabilities. Then, after returning to the WNBA, she proved to the world that she could take on the offensive burden, and soon became the Dream’s leading scorer on most nights.
In Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, the Golden State Valkyries recognized that and shut her down in the second half. But in Game 2, the superstar got more aggressive and scored at will. That adds to confidence, and Angel Reese was oozing with it.

In the third quarter, that confidence was high enough that in one sequence, she was demanding the ball. But when her teammates didn’t pass it to her, she visibly quit on the play and started walking to the other side of the court.
Fans tear into Angel Reese for bailing on her teammates
Since WNBA fans have been accustomed to seeing Angel Reese throwing a fit before, they were not surprised when this incident happened. Soon, the clip went viral, with most fans condemning her for her actions.
They pointed out that this behavior was similar to what caused all that friction with her Chicago Sky teammates. They felt that this was further evidence that she cannot let go of her egotistical self. Check out examples of those angry responses below.
@BrickCenter_ She has the emotional maturity of an 11 year old.

@BrickCenter_ Part of the game. She should’ve done what shaq used to do and get a 3 in the key until her teammates started giving her the ball

@BrickCenter_ Best player or not, you don’t quit on your team. Absolute horrible sportsmanship there. She should just retire.

In Angel Reese’s defense, she probably felt that she had the upper hand over the Valkyries forward Kayla Thornton and was thus demanding the ball. But fans felt her teammates walking away mid-play was unwarranted.
Angel Reese has the last laugh with dominant all-round performance
The reason why Angel Reese was demanding the ball was that she was the best offensive player throughout the game. At the time of that possession, she had amassed 15 points.

Thankfully, she did not hold that grudge for long, and neither did her teammates avoid getting her the ball. They kept going to her when they realized that the Maryland native was going to ensure her team won.
The Dream did, thanks to an all-round effort from arguably their best player since the second half of the season. They pulled away to a commanding double-digit lead over the Valkyries.
Finally, Angel Reese finished the night with 30 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two blocks. That performance was a response to her late struggles in Game 1. Thankfully for her team, they go back home with the series tied and the momentum in their hands.
