Naomi Osaka and rapper Cordae met in 2019 and dated for six years, before the WTA star announced their breakup in 2025. At that time, Osaka revealed that there was “no bad blood” between them, calling Cordae a “great person” and “an awesome dad.”
They welcomed their daughter Shai in July, 2023. But Cordae has hinted that he may be expecting a second child in his new song, Helpless. The song is a part of Heavy Is the Crown, his collaborative album with Anderson .Paak. In the track, Cordae admitted that he never foresaw raising his daughter in separate homes.
I’m finna have my second child, although we still ain’t said our vows / Was never my intention to raise my daughter in separate homes / Gave your mom my all, but the love she had for me dead and gone / Although you ain’t a man if you can’t admit it when you was wrong / Can’t see it coming down my eyes, so do it through this song.
Cordae says on the track
Cordae addresses his breakup with Naomi Osaka on ‘Helpless,’ a track from his new collaborative album with Anderson .Paak: "I’m finna have my second child, although we still ain’t said our vows Was never my intention to raise my daughter in separate homes Gavе your mom my all, but the love she had for mе dead and gone Although you ain’t a man if you can’t admit it when you was wrong Can’t see it coming down my eyes, so do it through this song" https://t.co/6esSiKJ2Ij

Cordae, however, did not reveal who the mother of his second child is. Osaka, although she has not revealed details about their breakup, is very open about motherhood. She once said her “main job” is to be a mom, calling tennis her “side hustle”.
The four-time Grand Slam champion has also shared her struggles with postpartum depression, admitting that she battled dark thoughts about whether Shai deserves a better mom than her, as well as the uncertainty about her comeback after maternity leave. Osaka was unranked after her return from maternity leave at the start of 2024. But now, the Japanese ace stands in 19th place.
Naomi Osaka often wonders how long she is going to play
In the pre-tournament press conference in Tokyo ahead of the Pan Pacific Open, Naomi Osaka opened up about the uncertainty of her future on the WTA Tour. She said if Shai ends up telling her not to travel much, she is not going to ignore that, as her daughter is her biggest priority.

I mean, obviously, for me, as I’m growing older, I feel like my mindset’s changing a lot. I think my daughter is my biggest priority, and I try my best to put as much energy as I can into tennis. So, like, if I think about it in certain ways, I’m really proud of where I am now because it’s not like I can dedicate my entire time to this sport. And I feel like some people would die to be in the top 20, and I’m kind of just like, I wouldn’t say part timing it, but like my entire day doesn’t consist of that.

In Tokyo, the 29-year-old will kick off her campaign against a tough opponent in the form of Jasmine Paolini. This will be their second meeting following their clash in the fourth round of the 2025 Miami Open.
Osaka has not yet won a title since lifting her fourth Grand Slam trophy at the 2021 Australian Open. Since then, however, she has played four finals, including at the Bad Homburg Open this year. Osaka handed the walkover to Karolina Muchova.
Paolini, on the other hand, has not yet played a singles final since last year’s Cincinnati Open. She last won a title at the 2025 Italian Open by defeating Coco Gauff.
Last year in the Pan Pacific Open final, Belinda Bencic defeated Linda Noskova. Osaka has played three finals in this event, losing in 2016 (her first WTA final) and in 2018. She won the tournament in 2019 by defeating Anastasia Pavliuchenkova.
