The personal lives of the tennis players have dominated headlines in recent weeks. When the tennis fans were busy discussing Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils‘ divorce, Naomi Osaka’s ex-boyfriend Cordae seemingly opened up about his breakup with the WTA star on his new song.
And then rumors of a fallout between two friends, Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Musetti, started spreading. Berrettini’s awkward on-court interview, when asked about Musetti’s Lyon Open win after his opening-round win in Vienna, has gone viral and fueled the rumors. According to these rumors, Berrettini’s ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Bellini, had an affair with Musetti, following his split with Veronica Confalonieri, the mother of his two children.
Back to the Monfils-Svitolina split, the Ukrainian ace announced the divorce on October 19 on social media, citing the toll of the war as the reason, before revealing in another post that other factors contributed to the breakup after backlash, as many struggled to understand the role of the war in this case.
Amid intense criticism, the Frenchman defended her, saying he respected her decision and called out the “venomous” comments. Not just fans, but former and current players have also reacted to their breakup, as a heartbroken Monfils called time on his career earlier than planned.
He wanted to play the recently concluded Lyon Open and hang up his racket at the Paris Masters, set to start on November 2. But on October 5, he became part of the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s (ITIA) retired players’ list.
Martina Navratilova, the 18-time Grand Slam singles champion, slammed those people who have made “nasty” comments about Monfils and Svitolina, and now Andy Roddick has come to their defense. He urged everyone to give the two privacy.
And we see Svitolina made the [WTA] Finals. We didn’t address their business with her and Gael and the divorce. The fact that they’re still having to address it based on other people’s feedback is ridiculous. Let them let them live. Let them make their decisions. Because they’re adults. Like, let them get through it. They don’t need input. Let them be. Let them figure their stuff out. We wish them both. All the best.

Monfils won his career’s last title at the 2025 ASB Classic. He played his career’s last professional match against Learner Tien in the second round of the US Open.
Gael Monfils will be at the Paris Masters for his farewell ceremony
Although Gael Monfils‘ professional career has ended, he has confirmed when he went live on Twitch that he will be there in Paris for his farewell ceremony. The Paris Masters will pay tribute to the two-time runner-up on the evening of November 2.

Of course I wasn’t going to leave like that. And now I want to thank the family of French tennis that supported me. At the Paris Masters 1000, on Tuesday, November 3, after the first match of the night session, there will be a tribute to my career, a big show, and I will be able to say goodbye to you in person.

Elina Svitolina will next compete at the WTA Finals, which runs from November 8 to November 15 in Indian Wells. The World No.6 is a one-time champion in this event, winning in 2018 and finishing as the runner-up the following season.
After losing to eventual runner-up Sonay Kartal in the quarterfinals of the Wuhan Open, Svitolina withdrew from the Ningbo Open and the Pan Pacific Open. She has so far played three finals, winning two titles in Auckland and Rome. She lost to Jessica Pegula in Dubai.
