Arsenal confirm Aaron Ramsdale signing from Sheffield United for £30m

Arsenal have roped in English goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United as their fifth summer signing this season for a reported fee of about £30m including various add-ons. The 23-year old goalkeeper will compete with Bernd Leno for a spot in the starting lineup this season for the Gunners.
Arsenal had been linked with a move for the young shot-stopper for a long now and finally landed the player on the same date they confirmed the signing of young midfielder Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid. Ramsdale has been given the Number 32 shirt and could be in line for his Arsenal debut this weekend in the London derby against Chelsea.

Ramsdale was also part of England’s EURO 2020 squad this summer after being called up as a replacement for Dean Henderson mid-way through the competition. Ramsdale was named the best player at Sheffield United last season and was bound to move onto a better club.
Gunners coach Mikel Arteta had prioritized the signing of a goalkeeper this summer, after Bernd Leno’s error last season made his “numero uno” status in the lineup questionable.
The u-21 English international took to his official Twitter account to share his thoughts on the transfer- “Delighted to start this journey with you guys. Ready to hit the challenge head on and see all the fans inside the stadium.”
“Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has joined us on a long-term contract from Sheffield United,” the club wrote in an official statement.
“The 23-year-old, who was part of England’s Euro 2020 squad, has represented England at all levels from Under-18 to Under-21 and was Sheffield United’s player of the year last season.”
With the signing of Ramsdale, Arsenal have already spent about £130million, which is the most any Premier League club has spent this summer. Arteta however, will look for a positive response on the pitch against Chelsea this weekend, after they received a 2-0 thrashing on opening day against promoted side Brentford.
