‘Nick Kyrgios has as much talent as Roger Federer but..,’ Greg Rusedski delivers a honest opinion on the Australian

Nick Kyrgios, Roger Federer

Nick Kyrgios is one of the most popular players on the ATP Tour. The Australian is never shy about speaking his mind out, and there is a controversy around the corner, when he is in action.

However, one cannot deny the fact that Nick Kyrgios is a player with exceptional talent and quality. On a given day, he can defeat the top ranked players. He announced himself on the big stage in 2014, when he defeated Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon. Since then, it has always been a case of Kyrgios engaging himself in controversies, and not being fully dedicated to tennis.

Former British and Canadian tennis player, Greg Rusedski believes that Kyrgios might be as talented as Roger Federer and John McEnroe, but that will never guarantee him success. He believes that being talented can never compensate for hard work, something which Kyrgios does not seem to be putting in.

Roger Federer and John McEnroe are arguably two of the greatest players to ever grace the tennis courts. Although, the duo belong to different generations, their skill and quality can never be questioned.

He’s got as much talent if not more talent than Federer or John McEnroe. But it doesn’t matter how ridiculously talented you are, it doesn’t beat hard work, the day-to-day grind and commitment,” said Rusedski.

Nick Kyrgios has not been in the best form in lead up to the US Open this year. The Australian star has won just one match in the three tournaments he has played this month. He had to pull out of the Winston-Salem Open last week, owing to an injury.

Kyrgios will face off against the Spaniard, Roberto Bautista Agut in a blockbuster first round clash at US Open 2021. The Australian had a decent run at Wimbledon 2021, where he withdrew from his third round encounter against Felix Auger Aliassime owing to an injury.
