US Open is the first slam ready to happen amidst the pandemic, but unfortunately, it is still seeing a series of withdrawals from players.
In a tweet by Elina Svitolina, she declared that she will be withdrawing from the US Open this year.
Shortly after her, the Dutch player, Kiki Bertens also declared that she would skip the US Open. This is the third top-10 player to have decided to skip the slam this year.

In her message, Svitolina thanked the organizers for their efforts to make the US Open possible for the players and fans. However, she stated her discomfort at traveling across to the US with her team in these circumstances.
She was the semi-finalist last year at the US Open before crashing out in the straight sets to the GOAT (Greatest of all time) Serena Williams.
Svitolina won the last WTA tournament she played in Germany before the tours were suspended.

While for Kiki Bertens the reason for skipping the major slam is the quarantine she will have to face after her return to her country. She says, “Our prime minister indicated yesterday that we should be quarantined for 14 days after coming back from the States.”
“Of course we respect this as a team and this would disturb our preparation for my beloved clay court tournaments in Rome and Paris. I hope the situation will soon take a positive turn and wish everyone good health,” Bertens added.
She is indicating her participation in the Italian Open that will be a part of the pre-French Open clay tour. The French Open will commence later the year from 27th September.
