Watch: Joseph Benavidez wakes up screaming after Deiveson Figueiredo knocked him out

Deiveson Figueiredo holds Joseph Benavidez in a rear-naked choke
Ask any fight fan around the world what they thought of UFC Fight Night: Figueiredo vs. Benavidez 2 and they all would show a grimace of pain. That’s how brutal and one-sided the fight was but what a bout it was between two world-class fighters.
The first flyweight bout between the two took place last year at the start of March with the then No. 1 contender Deiveson Figueiredo taking on No. 2 contender Joseph Benavidez.
Benavidez secured the first round in his favor but within the first half of the second round, Benavidez and Figueiredo got caught in a head clash causing the American to bleed profusely from a huge gash on his forehead which was then taken advantage of by the Brazilian who immediately hit him with a straight right that took out Benavidez who tried getting back into the fight but to no avail.
Figueiredo won the fight, but he couldn’t claim the UFC flyweight belt due to being overweight, resulting in a sequel for July.
The second fight was much more brutal. Figueiredo had the look like he had this fight in the bag as he hit Benavidez with a right hook within the opening seconds and kept catching with vicious rear-naked chokes that his title challenger was barely able to escape out off.
Benavidez was more arrogant than resilient and kept putting up with all the submission attempts and shots, however, it proved too much as ‘Deus da Duerro’ put his opponent to the ground and battered him with some ground and pound and even mixed in some elbow strikes.
Close to the end of the fight at 4:48, the Brazilian was declared the winner when he caught Benavidez in a rear-naked choke and it was gruesome because Benavidez didn’t tap out but rather got choked to sleep and the look on his face was enough to understand the amount of pain and suffocation he felt.
