“That’s someone who I look up to” – Collin Morikawa sheds light on Tiger Woods’ contribution to golf

Collin Morikawa
USA’s Collin Morikawa, who is currently participating in the Dubai Desert Classic at the Majlis course, has enjoyed his short but action-packed professional career. However, knowing and becoming veteran golfer Tiger Woods is amongst his favourites.
Morikawa only turned pro in 2019 but has already written his name with golden letters in the history books as he’s the first male golfer to win both the PGA Championship and the Open in tournament debuts.
Morikawa commenced competing in professional golf at a comparatively young age but didn’t really watch the sport when he was growing up.
“I think when you bring up Tiger Woods to someone that doesn’t even know anything about golf, they know he represents golf and the sport of golf,” Morikawa said in an interaction with CNN’s Becky Anderson.
“What he’s done for this game, how he’s changed the evolution of not just the physical aspect, the mental aspect, but just growing the game around the world. That’s someone who I look up to,” he added.
“Amazing to have a friendship with Woods”

The 24-year-old golfer further went on to say that he’s lucky to have a friendship with Tiger Woods and know him. He mentioned that the California native sportsperson is amongst the few who have done a lot for their respective games.
“It’s amazing to have a friendship, to know him, to talk to him and that’s the coolest thing, is that he’s grown this game like no one else ever has.
“There are only a few athletes in the world that I can think of, and that really anyone can think of, that have done that to their respective sport. So that’s, of course, someone who I’m going to look up to,” Morikawa signed off.
