Novak Djokovic is in New York since last week, getting ready for the Cincinnati Masters as well as US Open. He is one of the few players who have decided to take a private accommodation, even if they are at scorching rates. As a result, the Serb has ignored the bio-secure bubble made for players at the Flushing Meadows.

Speaking to Sportklub, Djokovic talked about the time spent by him at his rented home. Moreover, he also said that slowly and steadily, he is getting accustomed to playing tennis in front of empty stands.

Djokovic believes that tournaments will not be that grand this time around due to empty stands.

“I imagined what it would look like and would be very similar to the atmosphere that prevails now in the week of training. Almost all the lodges – 60 of them – intended for sponsors now belong to holders and members of their teams. They will reside their and watch the matches,” said the 17-time Grand Slam champion.

Djokovic further added that missing fans cheering for them can have an impact on the players. “Great to have around four to five practice sessions already at Arthur Ashe Stadium in front of that ‘audience’. Its the biggest pressure when your rivals watch you train and play. That will be the same throughout the tournament, so certainly a good introduction this week,” said the Serb.

Through ‘that audience’, Djokovic meant to say that in his practice sessions, there were opponents and their teams watching him.

According to Novak, not living in a bio-secure bubble has its own merits and demerits. However, he also feels lonely living at a rented house. “We are absolutely alone, but we manage. We have a good time together, playing cards and board games. Goran (Ivanisevic) wins poorly, but maybe he will start next time,” added Djokovic.

Djokovic will begin his campaign at Cincinnati Masters on Monday. He will begin with Round of 32 as he has got the first-round bye. Further, he is also due to play the US Open beginning 31st August. Both the events will be played at the Flushing Meadows.
