‘There is no point in being hectic,’ McLaren refuse to panic despite Bahrain GP shocker

McLaren's Boss, Andreas Seidl
Mclaren had an uneventful beginning to the 2022 Formula One Calendar. The team secured no points in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Both the drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris finished 14th and 15th and the team have more issues to sort out ahead of the next race in Saudi Arabia. Andreas Seidl, team principal too confirmed the team’s issues in his post-race interview.
The British team finished the 2021 season on 4th place in the constructors but right now sit at the bottom of the current table with 0 points. The MCL 36’s lack of pace was imminent following Daniel Ricciardo’s exit in Q1 of the qualifier. Ricciardo secured 18th place and Norris 13th on the starting grid.
Ahead of the race, Mclaren was touted alongside Ferrari to be dark horses in the title race. And although the Italian team has grabbed a 1-2 finish, Mclaren seems to be in a tricky situation after new technical issues have been unearthed. Ricciardo claimed that they are a “long way” away from the podium and explained the challenges that were stopping the team from getting there.

Andreas Sieldl says “The season is long enough to come back.”

The MCL 36 seemed off-balance and was losing ground in low-speed corners of the Bahrain International Circuit. The car was also well off the pace compared to other competitors and did not build enough mechanical grip and aerodynamic downforce.
Andreas Sieldl commented “We don’t know if we have a fundamental problem with the car. It’s still too early for that. We have to go deep into the analysis and also wait and see other tracks to see whether it has something to do with the layout or not. Our goal is to be competitive on all tracks.”
He added, ”There is no point in being hectic. We have to analyze everything very calmly. We have the resources, the talent and the experience in the team to come back. This was only the first race. The season is long enough to come back.”
Previously it was thought that the brakes of the MCL 36 were the issue. McLaren had replaced the brakes ahead of the main race after overheating issues. The team has confirmed that the team have been working on addressing the issues ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on 25-27 March.
