“We looked relatively on par with Ferrari,” George Russell displays faith in the Mercedes engine after rigorous criticism

George Russell
After eight years of complete domination in the entire hybrid era, Mercedes, entering into the new era of F1, had set the bar of expectations too high for itself. And unsurprisingly, no one expected the Brackley-based outfit to struggle for pace this season.
As the team’s W13 appears to be the third fastest on the grid, George Russell, in the first two races of the season, has clearly outshined his teammate and the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The 24-year old driver looked in great shape and finished P5 in Saudi Arabia and fought well whereas Lewis Hamilton failed to qualify for Q2 on the same weekend.
Russell, despite Mercedes’ lack of pace by almost a second compared to Red Bull’s and Ferrari’s, has shown strong faith in the engine and the car’s speed down the straight, since it’s being bashed continuously since the season began. George, as quoted by racingnews365.com, said, “I think everything did look better when we turned the engines up for qualifying. We looked relatively on par with Ferrari in terms of straight-line speed.”
George Russell on the improvements and hopes with the season

Mercedes have found themselves in the middle of the table after a mediocre start but lower by their standards. But the team still has a long way to go this season. With fast development, they can surely catch up with their rivals and do not miss the battles.
George Russell believes that there’s a lot of room for improvement for the team. He stands forth in the drivers’ championship and still has a shot at the title. He said, “We’re definitely not out of it. But, for sure, if we don’t manage to find some improvements, there’s no way we will be in with a shot of fighting for this championship. We’re definitely not giving up. We’ve come away from this, the first two races, as the third-best team.”
The Briton concluded by saying, “I don’t know what the Championship looks like, but even if we continue like this for the next five, six, seven, eight races, we’re still going to be within touching distance, I would say. There’s no reason why we can’t overturn it.”
George in the Silver Arrows looks promising and has proven to the management why he deserved the seat and is second to none. With a fully developed car, the driver can be easily seen at the front of the grid.
