Jay Williams urges NBA to take stricter actions against Dillon Brooks for fracturing Gary Payton II’s elbow

Dillon Brooks came into Game 2 of the Warriors vs Memphis series as an anticipated rising star. But his foul on Gary Payton II stole his show. Jay Williams feels that Dillon Brook’s foul was dirty play and that he deserves to be suspended for Game 3 to ‘set an example’ for the league and ensure that the ‘code’ is not broken.
With plethora of analysts and commentators looking to comment upon the same incident, Jay Williams could not help but join the queue. With Brooks being handed a 1-game ban in this tightly-contested Warriors vs Grizzlies semi-final clash, take a look at the opinion of Williams.
Dillon Brooks flops his opportunity to shine with a dirty play

Dillon Brooks along with Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr and Bayne became the headlines during the Memphis vs Timberwolves series in the 1st round of playoff series. Coming into the 2nd series and facing an elite team in the form of Golden State Warriors, there was quite the anticipation in the fans to look forward to his performance.
Dillon Brooks spoiled the party with a Flagrant 2 foul early in the game, that saw him get kicked of the game. Dillon Brooks took a swipe at Gary Payton II’s head when Gary was airborne and making a layup. As a result of the swipe, Gary came crashing down. He tried to save himself with his arms but failed to do so and ended up with a fractured elbow, an injury that could end his season early and potentially hamper his career too.

The play by Dillon has been deemed dirty by many, including Jay Williams and Steve Kerr, with Jay feeling that Dillon should be banned from Game 3 against the Warriors.
Dillon is young player and lack the experience. As Kenny mentioned in Inside the NBA, there is a fashion to stopping the play that GPII was pulling off. And the way to do it involves a lot of experience, a factor that Dillon lacks.
The reason the play has been deemed dirty is not because of the play alone and consequence alone, but also because of the context. Many perceive the foul as ‘revenge’ by the young team for what the Warriors did in Game 1. Draymond Green in Game 1 was suspended with a flagrant 2 foul for pulling the jersey of Clarke, a move deemed by many as a ‘basketball playoffs’ foul but ‘dirty’ by the Grizzlies. The Warriors later went on to win the game in Grizzlies’ home court. Many analysts believe that the Grizzlies wanted to avenge it, and that explains the reason why the foul on GPII was committed so early in the game.
Jay Williams, along with many other, have agreed to the fact that Dillon did break a very important basketball code. A code that denies a defender from swiping at the head of a player when he is airborne in a fast break.
Jay Williams goes as far to say, “He should be suspended for 3 Games”. A statement that has had mixed opinions.
It must be a night of anticipation and anxiety for Dillon as the final call is yet to be made by the officials.
