Jason Rocco Anthony Spezza is a former Canadian professional ice hockey center for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. He spent his 19 career seasons playing for the NHL and is now a part of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ front office. He was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the 2001 NHL Draft and eventually served as the team’s captain. Prior to his NHL selection, he played with the Ontario Hockey League. He was also part of the American Hockey League from 2004-05 during the NHL lockout season.

During this time Jason Spezza won the Les Cunningham Award as the League’s Most Valuable Player with the Binghamton Senators. In the following season, Spezza set an Ottawa Senators franchise record with 71 assists while hitting the 90-mark point for the first two times in his NHL career. Later he joined the Dallas Star and Toronto Maple Leafs. Jason also represented Canada at three World Junior Championships and two World Championships. He was the 3rd 16-year-old in history to make the team in World Junior Debut 2000.

Jason Spezza played with many big teams before staying with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played with the Toronto Marlboros where he recorded 114 points in 54 games. Later he started playing with the Ontario Hockey League where he scored 71 points in 67 games. Jason set an OHL career-high of 116 points, in 66 games. He was named the Top CHL prospect for the 2001 NH Draft and signed a deal with the Ottawa Senators as the second overall.

Jason made his official debut with the Senators in the 2002 Calder Cup playoffs. He had his NHL debut the following season when he scored 21 points in 33 games in a 2-1 loss against Philadelphia Flyers. His first trick came in a 6-1 Senators victory over the Montreal Canadiens. In September 2013 he became the captain of the Senators. With the Dallas Stars, he recorded 17 goals and 45 assists, in 82 games. Later on October 30, 2018, Jason Spezza had his 1000th NHL career game. Finally, during the 2022 playoffs, he announced his retirement from NHL.
