Tallon Griekspoor had a tough time beating Fabio Foggini in the first round. A solitary break of serve towards the end of the first set was enough for Foggini to clinch the opening set. Griekspoor struck back by winning the second set to level the match but Fognini started the third set with a break of serve, but lost the next four games and fell behind. The Italian was unable to recover from this deficit and lost the set. So Griekspoor punished Foggini’s mistakes and came from behind to strike back and win the match in four sets. He saved a break point in the eighth game of the fourth set and served out the match to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4. This was his first victory at Wimbledon.

On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz who arrived at the All England Club having played just a couple of exhibition matches on grass with a taped-up elbow. He showed great character against Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round dropped his serve early on in the opening set and the German held on to that lead to clinch the set. The second set was evenly balanced, but the teenager broke his opponent in the final game to win it. In the first game of the third set, the Spaniard saved a couple of break points for a tough service hold. Alcaraz eventually came out on top in the ensuing tie-break to bag the set and force a decider. Alcaraz easily served out the match in the next game to win 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4.

This will be the first meeting between the two players.
