FIA the governing body of Formula One has ahead of the Silverstone Grand Prix come up with new rules regarding PUs that are going to shake up the plans of almost all the teams on the 2022 grid.

The new rules have come in light of the excessive PUs that the teams are getting forced into using this season and the new rules have been brought with the hope of giving the teams some much-required respite.

As per the new FIA guidelines, “F1 teams will be allowed to swap PUs under parc ferme for newer versions in their pool (without pit lane start). Also, the FIA has allowed temporary repairs of power units.”

From the upcoming Silverstone Grand Prix onwards teams are going to have an option of switching for newer PUs from their pre-allotted arsenal without getting asked to start the race from the pit lane.

Moreover, teams have also been given the liberty to make temporary repairs on their PUs so that they can last for the remaining races of the 2022 season.

The new FIA rules are good news for Ferrari

Ferrari has been the worst hit team this season when it comes to reliability and one example of this was seen when both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz had to bow out of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix because of reliability issues.

Power Units are a “prized commodity” and the new rules that have come into the picture are definitely going to help teams like Ferrari and a few others who have had to switch their PUs regularly.

The Maranello-based Ferrari team is currently a bit behind Red Bull in both the Championships and the new rules from the FIA are going to help them in the long run.

There are still 13 races left in the 2022 season where anything can happen and if Ferrari is able to take good enough care of its PUs then they could very well get back in the Championship fight by the time the closing stage of the current season begins.
