WATCH: “Chhamiya naach rahi hain”- Virender Sehwag calls Virat Kohli “Chhamiya” on air; fans call him ‘Taklu’

Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag
Sometimes some commentator’s commentary etched in every cricket lover’s mind. Take the example of Ravi Shastri’s 2011 World Cup commentary where India won the World Cup for the second time in the history. It’s not an exaggeration if we say Shastri’s lines, “Dhoni finishes off in style…” will be remembered forever. Another commentary of his, “Sreesanth takes it”, the clear visual of the inaugural final of the ICC World T20 will come to the mind.
Cricket is not just a game in India, it has become a religion with Sachin Tendulkar being called the God of cricket. Cricketers are more than a celebrity in India and when some wrong thing occurs, fans don’t take it lightly.
During the rescheduled fifth Test match against England at Edgbaston, ex-India veteran Virender Sehwag uttered something ‘derogatory’ that angered the fans. Virat Kohli was celebrating Sam Billing’s wicket by dancing after Mohammed Siraj dismissed the English wicket-keeper batter and Hindi commentator Aakash Chopra drew Sehwag’s attention and asked, “Virat Kohli ka dance dekhiye” (See Virat Kohli’s dance).
Sehwag didn’t mind using the word “Chhamiya” in front of millions of viewers. He commented on Kohli’s dance with, “Chhamiya naach rahi hain.” Notably, “Chhamiya” is a Hindi slang means those girl who dances. A proper translation would be a coquette.
