“What a f**cking idiot” Pierre Gasly expresses his frustration with Ferrari driver

Pierre Gasly

Compared to his previous season, Pierre Gasly is having a fairly disappointing time in 2022. The Frenchman sits 11th in the standings with 16 points, 5 points ahead of his teammate. The car has not looked nearly as competitive as it was last year, even in qualifying. Certainly, Gasly wouldn’t be very pleased with his current situation, but there is not much he can do about it.

Gasly extended his AlphaTauri contract till the end of 2023 recently, following Sergio Perez’s own contract extension till 2024. While there were some rumours of a move to McLaren or even Mercedes, they have not materialized. For the time being, Gasly is stuck with AlphaTauri, with a Red Bull move coming in 2025 at the earliest.

The last two weekends have been rather disappointing for Gasly. He finished 14th in Canada, and retired in Silverstone, and he has only finished in the points 3 times this season. Austria was supposed to be his opportunity to perhaps get his form back, but it hasn’t looked very good for Gasly here either.

Pierre Gasly very angry about being hindered

In the first (and only on Friday) practice session, Pierre Gasly finished only 16th, which would have been frustrating on its own, but there was another incident in the session to add fuel to the fire, and made him even more frustrated.

While on a fast lap, Gasly attempted to pass a Ferrari driver but felt that the driver hindered him in that attempt. Immediately, Gasly made his thoughts about the ‘incident’ clear, and exclaimed over the radio: “This f***ing guy! What a f***ing idiot! Can’t even look in your mirrors.”

Pierre Gasly did not fare much better in the qualifying session (for the sprint), qualifying 11th, but it’s relatively even with his performance across the season. Gasly would certainly hope to edge his way into the points again, and perhaps he will fare better in the sprint and the race.
