Tyson Fury reveals his true motive for retiring, which may surprise supporters who have been waiting for Fury to “call his bluff.”
The retirement announcement of the WBC heavyweight champion has made headlines. He has been dropping hints regarding the genuine reason, once declaring that he is doing so to fulfil a commitment he made to his wife and once adding that if it was for the right purpose, he would withdraw from retirement, implying that the money is inadequate.
Fury declared his retirement after knocking out Dillian Whyte in April, but the sporting world has yet to receive a concrete reason as to why he is departing, which appears to have something to do with his last bout.

Tyson Fury has no recollection of getting knocked down by Deontay Wilder

Tyson Fury claimed that his fight with Deontay Wilder caused him to retire from boxing. In October, the Gypsy King beat Wilder for the second round in Las Vegas, retaining his WBC championship for the first time. He didn’t dominate as convincingly as he did in their first fight after a rigorous training camp. Aside from his camp, he also had coronavirus and a near-death experience with his newborn daughter.
Fury said of his trilogy victory over Wilder that, “I had lumps on the back of my head like fists. I was concussed, I didn’t remember anything. I was thinking, ‘Did I get put down four times?’ I thought, ‘I think it’s time to call it a day.'”
