Shaquille O'Neal and Steve Nash

Shaquille O’Neal‘s former teammate Steve Nash had mentioned to O’Neal in the beginning of 2008 that he was interested in producing a reality show in which Nash would compete against professional sportsmen in their respective sports. Nash’s plan, according to O’Neal, was built on preparing alongside other athletes rather than competing against them. When O’Neal joined the Suns bus early in the 2008–09 season and informed the team he would be appearing in a new reality programme in which he would be competing against, the subject didn’t come up again. Soon after this statement, Nash is said to have retained a lawyer who was successful in getting his point guard client producer credit for stealing his TV show concept.

Both Shaquille O’Neal and Steve Nash exceeded their preseason expectations during the 2004–05 season while wearing different jerseys. The storyline for the whole season was that the Big Diesel was essentially the MVP front-runner and Nash wouldn’t anticipate to be at odds with one another but the league had other plans which made Nash the MVP. The two have, however, shared a lot of history over the years, with the most well-known being the above-mentioned contentious 2005 NBA regular season MVP race. Additionally, there was an incident that happened when the two were Phoenix teammates.

Shaquille O’Neal- The unassailable center in NBA history

Many people believe that Shaquille O’Neal was the most dominant player in the NBA’s 75-year history. Over the course of his 19 seasons in the league, he received several honors, including league MVP, Rookie of the Year and various All-NBA and Al-Star selections. O’Neal won four NBA championships in addition to three MVP awards in the Finals. After being selected first overall by the Orlando Magic in the 1992 NBA Draft, a dominant O’Neal had an instant effect. The LSU product spent four seasons with Orlando before playing in the 1995 NBA Finals and t hat season, he averaged nearly 30 points per game, setting a league scoring record.

The Los Angeles Lakers, a franchise that would go on to make Shaquille O’Neal legendary, welcomed him in 1996. Three straight championships were won by the Lakers under O’Neal and Kobe Bryant from 2000 to 2003 which resulted his jersey to be hanged in the rafters. The Miami Heat retired Shaquille O’Neal’s jersey after he made a comeback and assisted them in winning their first NBA title in the 2006 NBA Finals. Induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016 and selection to the NBA 50th and 75th anniversary teams marked the end of a remarkable career for him in 2011.

Steve Nash and his lawsuit against O’Neal

Media reports claim that Steve Nash discussed his concept for a programme where he would compete against elite players in their respective sports with his newest teammate in Phoenix, Shaquille O’Neal. In a series called “Vs” that premiered in 2009, Shaq turned this programme into a reality by doing precisely what Nash had indicated he desired to achieve. O’Neal won a championship with the Miami Heat in 2006, but 20 months later, at the age of 35, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns. Although Nash and Shaq were teammates, the situation that happened wasn’t all that good for the former MVPs.

After that, Nash hired an entertainment attorney, which resulted in him being listed as an executive producer on the programme. He would also receive the money for his part to the creation of this concept. Strangely though, Todd Gallagher, another individual, also sued Shaq for the same thing, claiming the concept was the same as one he had put out in his book in which Gallagher would earn $500,000 as a compensation.
