FIFA President Gianni Infantino
President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has included in his speech about the Qatar FIFA World Cup, proclaimed the 2022 edition as the best. The event kicked off on 20th November and will end on the final day between Argentina and France on 18th December. Infantino gave the “best ever” verdict while thanking the organizers and workers associated with the project.
“Thanks to everyone who was involved, Qatar, all the volunteers who work, all of you, everyone who has contributed to make this World Cup the best ever,” Said Gianni Infantino in a press confrance ahead of the Third place match between Morocco and Croatia. This year’s edition indeed has seen the most upsets and exciting games between giants and small teams per the FIFA rankings. Saudi Arabia beat Argentina or Cameroon beat Brazil and Tunisia beat France and Japan beat Germany, the so-called world cup favourites tasted defeat at the very start.
“We had 3.27m spectators (in the stadiums)…We played 62 matches without incidents, with a very joyful atmosphere. Two matches to go … I say to everyone [involved in the tournament] who is receiving praise…focus until the end,” Infantino added. The most compact World Cup ever reaching the ultimate game on Sunday in Qatar, The United States, Mexico, and Canada will take up the mantle of hosts for the 2026 edition. It will be a sizeable global football showcase with more games, travel, and beer.
After the World Cup was controversially awarded to the 2022 hosts – Qatar, a country smaller than the state of Connecticut, football’s global governing body FIFA is going big in 2026. It is increasing the number of teams from 32 to 48, with games over three nations and as many time zones. The president’s sole reason to enlarge the event is to promote it in countries that are less affected by the football fever and looking to build a territory there.
