Kevin Durant joins Victor Wembanyama hype train

The tank for wonderkid Victor Wembanyama is ongoing. From the glimpse NBA fans have of him playing the G-League Ignite, everyone recognizes the game-breaking potential. He stands at 7’4″, has an 8-feet wingspan with the mobility of a guard. Crossovers, step backs, scoring in isolation; you name it, Wembanyama can do it. All of that makes him the most hyped draft prospect since LeBron James himself.

NBA players, coaches and front office execs alike are enamored by Wembanyama and understandably so, we have truly never seen anything like him. Okay, maybe not never, there is one other lanky 7-footer who plays like he’s a shooting guard. That of course is Kevin Durant. KD is the latest to jump on the Wemby hype train. Here are some NBA players talking about Wembanyama.

KD in a sit down with Jamal Crawford on NBA Center court had complimentary words for the Frenchman; “Man, I just see a talented, enthusiastic player that just looks like he loves the game. You could see those guys that love to play. It looks like he got so much better over the last couple of years, that’s just from the work that you put in. So, I’m impressed with him, I can’t wait to see him in the league. See how everything pans out for him in the league and I’m looking forward to playing against him as well.”

Victor Wembanyama is drawing high praise from all across the NBA. The league itself put him in the spotlight by allowing fans with League Pass to watch all games of his French Club Metropolitans 92. There’s no doubt that the sky is the limit for Wembanyama.

Among the names to praise Wembanyama are the apex stars of basketball. Namely, that list of stars most notably includes Steph Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James.

Curry called him a ‘cheat code’ in a press conference. The full quote: “He’s solid. He’s like the 2K create-a-player. Every point guard that wants to be seven foot – cheat code type vibes. He’s a solid talent. It was great to watch. They had a pretty entertaining game with the Ignite team, So it was dope.”

Giannis, on an episode of teammate Serge Ibaka’s ‘How Hungry are you’ said “This kid is going to be a problem. A big problem. I’ve never seen this before in my life. He’s taller than Rudy Gobert. He can block shots like Rudy but shoot like KD.”

As for LeBron; “Everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years, well he’s more like an alien,” LeBron said. “I’ve never seen, no one’s ever seen anyone as tall as he is, but it’s fluid and as graceful as on the floor. His ability to put the ball on the floor, shoot step-back jumpers on the post, step-back 3s, catch-and-shoot 3s, block shots. He’s for sure a generational talent. And hopefully he continues to stay healthy, that’s the most important for him personally, and as you could tell he loves the game. He was smiling a lot while playing the game last night.”

It’s safe to say that the league is ready and waiting excitedly for the arrival of Victor Wembanyama.
