The Indian Premier League (IPL) has just gone on to improve with every season right from its inception in 2008. It is right now the richest and most competitive T20 tournament in the world. Almost all the star players take part in the tournament every year and the tournament has also become the breeding ground for emerging talents. The format of the tournament is very competitive, and the matches are filled with excitement and last-ball thrillers.

Meanwhile, former India opener and current commentator Aakash Chopra has suggested a little tweak in the points system to make it more interesting. He wants bonus points to be introduced in this season of the IPL when a team wins a match very convincingly. Chopra did admit that the Net Run Rate (NRR) plays a huge factor, but it also takes center stage at the end of the league stage. As per Chopra, a bonus point could turn out to be an incentive for the teams.

I have a suggestion for the #TataIPL this season. Have a bonus point if the margin of victory exceeds a certain threshold. While NRR is a proven way to know who’s done better over a period of time, the exact advantage doesn’t register till very late. Bonus points is an incentive that tangible…immediate and tbh, effective too. Kya bolti public??

This could definitely make the matches more interesting. Teams will be looking to go extra hard and win matches more convincingly to earn the bonus point. This in turn will increase the competitiveness, spice up things, and keep fans at the edge of the seas. It is a reform that is worth considering.

IPL has announced the schedule for the 2025 season

The BCCI has already announced the schedule for the IPL 2025 season. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the defending Champions and, hence, will play the opening match of the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Kolkata on March 22. The final is also set to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

On the second day, the first doubleheader of the tournament will be taking place. In the evening match, the two most successful teams of the tournament, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will be facing off against each other. It is the most intense clash of the tournament.

CSK, KKR, RCB, PBKS, and RR are placed together in Group A. Meanwhile, MI, LSG, DC, GT, and SRH are placed in Group B. The teams will play the other four teams of the same group and one team from the other group twice in the tournament. They will face off against the other four teams from the other group once in the tournament.
