The New York Yankees start September with a 7-14 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, despite it being the final regular season run for the team. The playoffs are almost at the corner, and the Yankees’ “right there in front of us” view has upset fans over and over again.
They have lost four out of their last five games and stand half-a-game ahead of their divisional rivals Baltimore Orioles for the AL East League standings. If a couple more games are lost, the Yanks will find themselves in a not-so-favorable position ahead of the playoff season.
The Sunday afternoon slugfest ended with the Cardinals having the win by a margin of 14-7, and it took up to the 7th innings to settle things between the two teams. Moreover, manager Aaron Boone’s answer during the postgame conference failed to justify their loss to the fans.
We know how important these games are certainly. Another opportunity here to win a series that we weren’t able to finish and that sucks. But it’s onward…We knew St. Louis was playing well. Texas is playing well. We go to Chicago, they’re playing really well right now. We’ve gotta play our best and put our best foot forward to win these games and hopefully we start that tomorrow night.Aaron Boone on X.

With less than a month to turn over the results, the Yankees may land in a Wild Card spot if they don’t level up their game with strategizing roster moves. However, the fans were fuming over the team’s September call-up names, as they pursued Duke Ellis instead of adding Jasson Dominguez to the lineup.
Not only fans, but MLB critics questioned the team’s decision to do so. Boone assured that Dominguez is in talk for now, and may be called up later. But for now, they’ll be running with Ellis and Alex Verdugo for the remaining season games.
Juan Soto comments on NY Yankees 7-14 loss
The 7-14 series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals hurt the NY Yankees from further solidifying their position for the playoffs. As of now, the team has lost series to Cardinals, Washington Nationals, Detroit Tigers, and Los Angeles Angels in the past month.
When asked about the recent Yankees losing streak, Juan Soto commented how they’re trying their best and “it’s not as easy as it looks out there.” He further said,
I think it’s just part of baseball. Things are going to go up and down all the way. It’s not as easy as it looks out there. We’re definitely trying.Juan Soto on X.

Aaron Boone further stated during the questionnaire,
It’s not been easy, but we’re in a great position. We’re sitting atop the division, best record or right around there in the league. It’s definitely been a grind for us, but like I’ve said, it’s right there for the taking.Aaron Boone on X.
The Yankees went 14-12 in August. They have the AL's best record at 79-57, but are just 39-38 since June 1.

New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes backed Boone’s statement by saying “we are still in first place” no matter how much people think they are playing badly. “It’s there for us to take,” he added.
"As bad as people think we're playing and as bad as it might show that we're playing, we're still in first place. It goes to show that it's there for us to take."

Both Anthony Rizzo and Jazz Chisholm Jr. are back in the lineup and are already adding to the points. The fans are hoping the Yankees prove themselves by results, and hopefully, they’ll do so within the remaining few games.
