Two years after becoming a Super Bowl champion with the Los Angeles Rams, Aaron Donald abruptly announced his retirement at the age of 31. The decision confused the football world because Donald clearly had a few more years left in him.
Physically, Donald was at the top of his game, but emotionally, he’d checked out. From racking up three Defensive Player of the Year awards to recording 111 sacks, he had accomplished everything he aimed for since honing his skills at the University of Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and in LA.
He now enjoys spending time with his family and co-runs a non-profit charity with his wife, Erica. Donald recently appeared on the ESPN College Game Day booth as a guest picker for the Notre Dame-Pitt game. Obviously, he picked the Panthers, but the Irish proved their superiority by posting a 37-15 win.
The cameras focused on Donald for the majority of the duration when he was in the booth. He looked jovial to be in the thick of football once again. With players unretiring to play for a second time on the rise, it won’t surprise anyone if one of the greatest pass rushers of all time decides to make a comeback.
His former team, the Rams, is 8-2 and arguably the second-best in the NFC (behind the Eagles). Donald’s presence and experience could come in handy for Sean McVay’s defense. So will he be interested in another shot at a second ring?
No… To be honest with you, I never have had an itch after I retired to like, ‘I want to come back, I want to play football still.’ You miss things from the game, and for me, it’s not really playing the game.

Donald doesn’t miss football per se, but he misses gossiping with his teammates in the locker room, going through tape, and the camaraderie during practice sessions. Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua revealed that Donald still comes by the gym.
He comes into the weight room and it’s like, somehow the 180 pound dumbell just appear in our wieght room and I like what the hell, what’s going on? He just casually walking in with the cut off tee…

Seattle Seahawks legend shared why they feared Aaron Donald
The Rams and Seahawks meet twice each season, and their latest clash ended with a 21-19 Rams victory, highlighted by four turnovers forced from Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.

Legendary defensive back Richard Sherman, who played for both the Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers, reminisced about the good old days when he regularly faced off against Donald on the gridiron. The Super Bowl champion said Donald was the most dominant player every time he stepped onto the field.
Aaron Donald [was] legendary… Ruined a lot of the game for us. We somehow one [a game] sometimes. Boy, I tell you, you never seen people struggle to stop a grown man like that. I don’t know what the quarterback was considered for Aaron Donald, but it seemed like a man who had not had a meal in year,s and they had a steak dinner in the back field.

Donald spent his entire NFL career with the Rams, even after the team moved from St. Louis to LA. He played a total of 165 games (regular season+playoffs), racked up 577 combined tackles, was an All-Pro 8 times, and went to the Pro Bowl 10 times.
