New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge made a huge statement on Saturday. During the team’s second game of the season, the American League MVP smashed 3 home runs in an emphatic 20-9 victory, leaving fans on social media hyped up.
The Yankees entered this game on the back of a 4-2 Opening Day victory. This match saw the return of one of the former starting pitchers, Nestor Cortes, who was traded in the offseason in exchange for Devin Williams.
The return to New York did not work out well for Cortes. He gave up three back-to-back-to-back home runs in the first three pitches of the game as Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, and Aaron Judge all went yard. Austin Wells added a fourth home run of the inning later on.
A three-run home run from Anthony Volpe made it a 7-3 game for the Yankees in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Judge worked out a 2-1 count against rookie left-hander Connor Thomas. The 2-time AL MVP then slugged it out of the park for a grand slam to give his team a 12-3 lead.
An inning later, Judge crushed his third home run of the day by hitting the ball high into the center field. Only one Yankee batter, Lou Gehrig, had previously managed to hit 4 home runs in one game.
Judge came close to tying this record in the 6th inning as his shot bounced off the wall in the right field for an RBI double. The Yankees captain eventually finished the day going 4-for-6 with three home runs, one double and 8 RBI.

Judge is now the 4th Yankees player to have at least three games of three or more home runs, joining Lou Gehrig (4 times), Joe DiMaggio, and Alex Rodriguez.

The Yankees finished the day by hitting 9 home runs with Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Oswald Peraza joining the party as well. They became just the third team to hit 9 or more home runs in one single MLB game and fell one shy of tying the record of 10. The Toronto Blue Jays belted 10 home runs against the Baltimore Orioles on 14th September, 1987 in an 18-3 win.
