Aaron Judge and Team USA had their hearts broken on Tuesday as they lost the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) against Venezuela. Following this game, Judge got trolled wildly on social media by the fans after another disappointing showing.
Team USA were hoping to do one better than last time in this edition. Having lost the final against Team Japan in 2023, they were aiming to get the job done this time and add a second WBC title to their collection.
After 3 wins from their 3 opening pool stage games, they stumbled a little as they lost 8-6 to Italy. That loss saw them finish as runners-up in Pool B while Team Italy finished on top with a 4-0 record.
In the knockout stages, the Americans first knocked out Canada 5-3 in the quarter-finals before beating the Dominican Republic 2-1 in the semi-finals. The win over DR on Sunday marked their 3 straight final appearance, having won the 2017 edition against Puerto Rico.
It was Venezuela who opened the scoring in this game. A sacrifice fly from Maikel Garcia in the third inning saw them take a 1-0 lead.
They would extend this lead to 2-0 in the 5th inning. A solo shot from Boston Red Sox’s Wilyer Abreu gave them a 2-run lead.
Judge’s team would make a comeback. A 2-run home run from Bryce Harper in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2 outs tied the game and brought them back into the contest.

After Harper’s big shot, Judge came up to bat again. The 2025 American League MVP, however, did not have a great night and struck out for the third time to end the inning.

Eugenio Suarez would restore Venezuela’s lead in the next inning. A double from the Cincinnati Reds star put his side 3-2 up.
Team USA were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 9th inning. After Kyle Schwarber struck out, Gunnar Henderson would pop out for the 2nd out. Roman Anthony would go down swinging for the final out as Venezuela sealed a historic win.

Aaron Judge brutally ridiculed by fans following WBC final loss
Aaron Judge was unable to make a huge difference in the WBC final as he struggled again. After the loss against Venezuela, the New York Yankees captain got brutally ridiculed for his performance.

Several users on X took swipe at him. Meanwhile, one user wrote, “least clutch superstar ever“, while throwing a shade at Judge. Check out that and some other reactions below:

Speaking of the WBC, Venezuela became the 4th country to win this tournament after Japan, Dominican Republic and the USA. Infielder Maikel Garcia was named the MVP of the tournament later on.
Aaron Judge loses another final after WBC disappointment
It was not meant for Aaron Judge and Team USA on Tuesday. Despite being one of the heavy favorites and having a star-studded team, they were unable to avoid defeat in the final. This loss marks another major failure in Judge’s baseball career.

After becoming the captain of the Yankees in December 2022, he and his team missed the playoffs altogether in 2023. The next season, they did reach the World Series.
In their first Fall Classic appearance since 2009, the Yankees got dominated by the Los Angeles Dodgers. In Game 5, Judge had a massive fielding error which ignited the Dodgers’ comeback and saw them win the series.
In 2025, the Bronx Bombers came up short once again. In the American League Division Series (ALDS), they lost 3-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays, with Judge struggling once again.
The 3-time MLB MVP has now suffered disappointment with his country. After missing the 2023 edition, he was hoping to guide the U.S. to their 2nd WBC title. Unfortunately for him, that did not happen and they suffered back-to-back defeats in the final.

The slugger will have to pick himself up from this and turn his attention to the upcoming season. The Yankees will kick-start the new season as they take on the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park on 25th March.
