Aaron Judge dropping a catch in the 5th inning of a game certainly brings back painful memories for the New York Yankees fans. On Wednesday, the 2024 American League MVP got brutally trolled by users on social media after he dropped the ball again in the 5th inning.
At the start of the 2025 season, Judge returned to his right field position after playing the 2024 season as a center fielder to accommodate Juan Soto in the outfield. In the 5th inning against the San Diego Padres, the Yankees captain made a fielding error.
A hard-hit ball from Martin Maldonado would fly over to the right field. Judge would race back to the warning track and put up his glove in order to make the play. However, he misjudged the catch and ended up closing the glove a bit earlier which led to the ball being dropped.

Judge made a similar error during the World Series last year. During Game 5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Yankees captain ended up dropping a routine fly ball in the center field which later proved very costly.
The Dodgers at that time were trailing the game 5-0. The dropped ball from Judge allowed their opponents to have two runners on base. The Yankees made a few more errors in the field after this moment and blew away a 5-run lead, and not only lost the game 7-6 but also lost the World Series as the Dodgers won the Fall Classic 4-1.
Social media reacts to Aaron Judge’s dropped catch against Padres
The series between the San Diego Padres and the New York Yankees saw two in-form teams taking on each other. In the third game of the series, the name of Aaron Judge started trending on social media after the Yankees star once again dropped a catch in the fifth inning.

Fans on X, once again, brutally trolled Judge for his performance in the right field. While some fans were hurt by the drop catch as it reminded of that Game 5 against the Dodgers, some mocked his defensive capabilities. One user wrote, “Worst right fielder in New York” while reacting to this.

Last year, Judge ranked 10th among his teammates with a -6 rating in the Outs Above Average (OAA) category. This year, it has improved a bit so far with a +2.
Yankees walk-off Padres despite Aaron Judge going hitless
It was a bad day in the office for Aaron Judge on Wednesday. While he failed to make a single hit in his 4 plate appearances, he also dropped the ball in the right field during the fifth inning of the game. Despite that, the Yankees were able to walk-off the Padres and emerge victorious.

Judge, who is having another solid year with the bat, had a rare failure in the batter’s box in this game. In his 4 appearances, he struck out 3 times. Despite going 0-for-4 in this match, the slugger has a high batting average of .400.
Cody Bellinger broke the no-hitter of Dylan Cease with a solo home run in the 7th inning to bring the Yankees back on level terms. After conceding two runs in the 8th inning, the Yanks once again came back with a 2-run pinch-hit home run from Trent Grisham.
With the game tied at 3-3 after nine innings, the game went into extra innings. J.C. Escarra delivered a sac-fly in the bottom of the 10th inning to walk-off the game for the Yankees and give them a 4-3 win.

The win also saw the Yankees take the series two games to one against the Padres. They will now face the Athletics and the Seattle Mariners in a three-game series respectively before coming back home to take on the New York Mets.
