On Tuesday, Aaron Judge suffered another huge defeat as Team USA lost 3-2 against Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) final. A few days after this loss, the American captain expressed his desire to play in the 2028 Olympics and the next edition of the WBC.

This WBC was the first time Judge was representing his country in an international tournament. He missed the 2023 tournament as he decided to focus on the upcoming season after signing a massive 9-year, $360 million deal with the New York Yankees.

The tournament started well for him. In his first at-bat, he went yard as he smashed a 2-run home run off against Bo Takahashi.

It was the elimination games where he once again struggled. In the final against Venezuela, the reigning American League MVP went 0-for-4 and struck out 3 times. As per StatMuse, he went 2-for-11 in the knockout stages with 6 strikeouts and failed to record an RBI.

Following the loss, Judge got criticized heavily. Fans on social media would troll him for his performance as his country suffered back-to-back defeats.

On Friday at the Yankees Spring Training camp, the 33-year-old would speak to the media. During this, he expressed his desire to suit up for his country once again during the next edition of the WBC and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

I want any chance I get. I didn’t want to miss the last one (in 2023). I was pissed I wasn’t in the one in ’17, even though I was a rookie. But yeah, any chance I get.

Speaking of Judge, he struggled a bit in the Spring Training game on Friday. While playing as the designated hitter (DH) against the Baltimore Orioles, he went 0-for-3. His team did end up winning 3-0 though.

While the WBC was a serious affair, there were some playful moments too. During the clash against Venezuela and the Netherlands, Atlanta Braves teammates Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies were seen having fun competing against each other.

Team Italy would go viral for their espresso celebration in the dugout after hitting home runs. The Dominican Republic would also playfully celebrate their home runs as players would lift plaintiff dumbbells.

Team USA would get ridiculed by some parts of social media for taking a business-like approach. In his interview with the reporters, Judge spoke on the narrative of Team USA not having much fun during this tournament.

Everybody’s different. Every culture is different. I loved everything that Mexico was doing, Great Britain, the D.R. How they celebrate the game, it was amazing. If they’re going to say we don’t have the passion, my passion is grinding in this (batting) cage when nobody’s watching.

Judge will now turn his attention towards the upcoming season. The Yankees will begin their quest for title number 28 on March 25 as they face the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park in the season opener.
