A few days ago, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees took part in a 3-game series which was the rematch of the 2024 World Series. In a recent interview, Yankees captain Aaron Judge opened up about the huge error he made in Game 5 of the Fall Classic last year.

The Dodgers had a dominant start in the series and won Games 1, 2, and 3 and seemed to be on their way for a World Series sweep. The Bronx Bombers lived up to their name in Game 4 and forced Game 5.

The final game at Yankee Stadium started well for the hosts as they took a 5-0 lead. Judge, who had a stellar regular season, finally woke up in the World Series and launched a solo home run in the first inning. He later went from being a hero to a villain.

In the fifth inning of the game, Judge would drop a routine fly ball in the center field. This drop catch was followed by more defensive errors from the team. The Yankees ended up giving up 5 runs in this inning and saw the game tied at 5-5.

In an interview with USA Today, Judge would open up about his error and look back at the incident. The 2024 American League MVP expressed that there were some more plays that the team should have made after his error.

Stuff like that happens. I’ve just got to make the play. There were five other plays after that could have changed the course of that. Really, you kind of dismiss it right after the play happens. We still have the lead. Once the play is over with, there’s nothing you can do about it. Go out and make the next play.

The Dodgers would go on to turn things around and win the game 7-6. The win from this game clinched them their 8th World Series crown as they thumped down the Yankees 4-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Following a historic 2022 season where he smashed 62 home runs in the regular season, Judge would become a free agent. During the offseason, he was heavily pursued by the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants.

There had been offers of around $400 million. In the end, Judge chose to re-sign with the Yankees on a 9-year $360 million deal and was later named as the 16th captain of the New York Yankees.

Reflecting on this, Judge also expressed that he might have gotten booed like his former teammate, Juan Soto.

This is where I always wanted to be, especially after getting drafted here. This is my home. But if I was to look back, and would have signed with the Padres or signed with the Giants, it could be a little different. I might have been getting booed like (Juan) Soto, so I’m happy with my decision.

Aaron Judge recently scripted MLB history alongside Shohei Ohtani

Aaron Judge is once again having a good time in the batter’s box. The reigning AL MVP is once again the frontrunner for this award with his performances. On Friday, he scripted another MLB record alongside Shohei Ohtani.

In the first game of the series, Judge homered in the first inning against Tony Gonsolin to kick-start things for his team. In the bottom of that inning, Ohtani answered back and smashed a solo shot of his own against Max Fried to tie the game.

This marked the first time that the two reigning MVPs had smashed a home run in the same inning. It was just the second time in the league where two current MVPs had both hit a home run in the same game.

Ohtani went on to have the last laugh against him, though, as he homered again off Max Fried in the 6th inning. The Dodgers won that game 8-5 and then went on to smash the Yankees 18-2 to claim another series win. The Yanks avoided the sweep with a 7-3 win on Sunday.
