The 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) will kick off this week. Ahead of their opening game against Brazil in Houston, Team USA captain Aaron Judge delivered a strong speech.

Judge, the reigning American League MVP, will be the one wearing the Captain’s “C” on his jersey this year. He did not take part in the 2023 edition as he had just signed a massive 9-year, $360 million deal with the New York Yankees.

In his absence, Mike Trout would lead the team. Under his leadership, the 2017 champions made all the way to the final. In the last game, they went up against Shohei Ohtani and Team Japan.

The final out saw Ohtani, the Japanese captain, strike out Trout. In the first matchup between then-Los Angeles Angels teammates, Ohtani got the better of Trout and left him swinging to end the game 3-2 in their favor and take home the title.

Last year, Judge was named the captain of the team. The slugger, who leads the Yankees as their captain as well, would later take to his social media accounts and claim he was “blessed” for this opportunity.

On Tuesday, Judge would deliver a strong speech. While speaking to his teammates, coaches and other background staff members, the 33-year-old talked about sacrifices and how they could bring home the gold from the WBC.

Sacrifice for your family at home. You’re sacrificing for your country, and you’re sacrificing for the brothers in the trenches. And that’s what they all want us to do, fellas. If we do that, we’re bringing the gold home, man. I’m telling you.

After their game against Brazil, the USA will take on Great Britain on Saturday. This would see Judge go up against his Yankees teammate, Jazz Chisholm Jr., who will be leading the team.

They will conclude their pool stage games by then taking on Mexico and Italy.

Aaron Judge reveals Team USA were hyped up with Olympics glory

On February 22, the men’s USA hockey team clinched an Olympic gold medal as Jack Hughes‘ goal in overtime saw them defeat Team Canada 2-1 in the gold medal game. This win of the men’s hockey team left Aaron Judge and his Team USA teammates hyped up.

While speaking with Pat McAfee, Judge revealed how the group chat of Team USA kept sending pictures of Hughes. He then added that now he and his team have the chance to copy that and bring home more gold in sports for the United States.

Boys were fired up. Hughes, man, we sent so many pictures of Hughes in the group chat. It was great. … It’s kinda cool that it’s going to snowball into this. … Now we get a chance to throw on the red, white and blue and copy what they did.

The triumph of Hughes and his teammates ended a 46-year drought for America. The United States had not won an Olympic gold medal in men’s ice hockey since 1980.

This win also came on a special day for them. 46 years ago, on February 22, 1980, Team USA defeated the dominant Soviet Union 4-3 in the Olympics. This game was later dubbed “Miracle on Ice as the U.S. went on to win the gold medal a couple of days later.

The men’s hockey team, however, were not the only one that brought gold to the U.S. in ice hockey. A few days prior to their win, the women’s ice hockey team also defeated Canada. They also took down their North American neighbors 2-1 in overtime to claim their 3rd gold medal in women’s ice hockey.

Now the focus shifts to Judge and his group. Alongside Japan, they are one of the heavy favorites and will have lots of eyes on them. Will they be able to avenge the 2023 loss? Only time will tell that.
