Aaron Judge has once again crossed the 50-home run mark. The New York Yankees captain slammed his 50th and 51st home runs of the 2025 season in his team’s 8-1 win over the Chicago White Sox. His 50th homer saw him tie a historic MLB record.
Judge had a fantastic 2024 regular season as he clubbed 58 home runs. His performances saw him lead his side to their first World Series since 2009. Despite losing in the Fall Classic, the outfielder was named as the American League MVP.
The Yankees’ star started the 2025 season where he left off the previous campaign. On Wednesday, he entered the game sitting on 49 home runs, one shy of another half-century of home runs. In the third inning, he smashed a 3-run bomb off Jonathan Cannon to reach 50 home runs for the season.

This home run saw Judge join an exclusive club. He became just the 4th player to hit 50 or more home runs in 4 different seasons. The only other players to hit 50 or more bombs in 4 separate seasons are Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa.

Judge hit 52 home runs in his rookie year in 2017. He then broke the American League Record for the most home runs in a regular season at 62 in 2022. After hitting just 37 home runs in 2023, the 33-year-old slammed 58 last year.
He also joined Shohei Ohtani in another exclusive club. A week ago, Ohtani became the first player since Alex Rodriguez to have 2 successive seasons of 50 or more home runs. The reigning MVPs join Rodriguez, Sosa, McGwire, Ruth, and Ken Griffey Jr. as the only players to have back-to-back seasons with 50 home runs.

Aaron Judge’ 50th blast makes it 3rd MLB season to have 4 players hit 50 or more home runs
The 2025 MLB season added another huge moment on Wednesday. Aaron Judge‘s 50th blast of the season made this year just the 3rd MLB season to have 4 players hit 50 or more home runs.

The first to 50 this year was Seattle Mariners’ star Cal Raleigh. After breaking the tie with Salvador Perez for the most home runs by a catcher, “Big Dumper” launched a towering shot to cross the 50-home run mark.
Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter (DH) Kyle Schwarber would then join the fray. The DH hit his 50th bomb of the year in his side’s 9-3 win over the New York Mets earlier this month.
Last week, Shohei Ohtani became the third player to hit 50 homers this year. He reached this mark after throwing 5 hitless innings as a pitcher against the Phillies. Unfortunately, his team ended up losing that game 9-6.
The 1998 and 2001 seasons were the only ones before where 4 players had smashed a half-century of home runs. Judge’s 3-run shot makes 2025 the 3rd campaign to have 4 players hit 50 home runs.

2025:

Kyle Schwarber – 55
Shohei Ohtani – 53
Aaron Judge – 50
2001:
Barry Bonds – 73
Sammy Sosa – 64
Luis Gonzalez – 57
Alex Rodriguez – 52
1998:

This year could end up becoming the first to have 5 players cross the 50-homer mark. Eugenio Suarez currently sits at 48 and needs 2 more from the remaining 4 games to join a historic club.
Aaron Judge’s 2 home runs helps Yankees tie Blue Jays for first place
Aaron Judge’s 2 home runs against the Chicago White Sox led the New York Yankees to an 8-1 win. This, along with the loss of the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday sees the Bronx Bombers tie their division rivals for first place in the American League East.

The Blue Jays were the first AL team to qualify for the playoffs this year. After clinching a playoff berth, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. seemingly issued a warning to the Yankees and expressed that they now wanted to win the division.
However, two successive losses against the Boston Red Sox have made things interesting. The two teams are tied at the top with a 90-68 record. The Canadian side, though, holds the tiebreaker over them.

So to win the division title from here, the Yankees will need to win one more game than the Blue Jays, which will earn them a bye to the divisional series. The Yanks will take on the Baltimore Orioles in their final series. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays will face the Tampa Bay Rays. These AL East divisional matchups will decide where the title is heading.
