The New York Yankees were eliminated from the 2026 postseason on Wednesday following a 4-3 loss in Game 3 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) against the Tampa Bay Rays. Following this disappointing exit, Aaron Judge urged the front office to go “all in” during the upcoming offseason.

The American League East side faced criticism at the start of the year for their offseason moves. After their ALDS exit against the Toronto Blue Jays, the team did not make any major signings.

They first re-signed Trent Grishman as he accepted the 1-year qualifying offer that they extended. The team then set their sights on Cody Bellinger.

After weeks and months of speculation, the outfielder re-signed with the team on a 5-year, $162.5 million deal. Apart from this, the team brought back stars like Paul Goldschmidt, Tim Hill, Ryan Yarbrough, Paul Blackburn, and Amed Rosario.

Instead of huge signings, they decided to bring back some of the core members of the team. Even during the trade deadline, the only two moves they made were bringing in Heliot Ramos and Luis Garcia Jr. from the San Francisco Giants and the Washington Nationals, respectively.

In the offseason, the Yankees passed up the opportunities to bring in free agents like Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette, Munetaka Murakami, and Kazuma Okamoto.

On Wednesday, Judge was forced to watch from the sidelines as his team got defeated. While the Yankees did have a huge game-tying home run call go against them due to fan interference, they were largely the second-best team in the series.

Judge, the 3-time MVP, was not part of the Yankees roster due to his calf strain. All he could do was cheer on his teammates and watch from the dugout.

While speaking with the reporters after the game, the outfielder claimed that they are the Yankees and should go “all in” in the offseason.

We’re the Yankees. I feel like they should go all-in and do what they need to do. If we got holes, it’s finding certain players or personnel, whatever we need; you gotta go out there and get it.

Aaron Judge told the reporters as per YES Network

This was Judge’s 11th season in MLB with the Yankees and his 4th since signing the mega 9-year, $360 million deal in December 2022. It was also an injury-filled one for him.

He was diagnosed with a rib fracture in early June after he had experienced some difficulties in his upper body in May. It was suspected that he injured himself while diving for a play in April.

After missing more than 3 months of action, he returned to the lineup in September. However, this return was a short one as he played just 7 games before landing on the injured list once again with a calf strain.

Derek Jeter has no idea what’s next for the Yankees

The New York Yankees were bounced from the ALDS for a second season running by one of their AL East division rivals. With this defeat, there are several questions regarding the future of the Yankees. While discussing this loss on Fox Sports MLB, Derek Jeter had no idea how to answer what’s next for the team.

During the postgame broadcast, Alex Rodriguez came up with the point that there had to be some philosophy change for the Yankees. The 14-time All-Star claimed that there were 5 positions out of the 9 where the team needs to focus.

Meanwhile, Jeter tipped his hat to the Tampa Bay Rays. The former Yankees captain claimed that they played better than them and added that he had no idea what would be next for the Bronx Bombers.

They’ve (Rays) had the best team in the league up until this point, and they proved it once again. They played better than the Yankees all season. They played better than the Yankees in this particular series. Um, in terms of what’s next. I don’t know. I think that’s the best way to answer it. I do not know what’s next.

Derek Jeter said on FOX Sports MLB

The biggest question in this is the future of manager Aaron Boone. After this loss, he has a 25-30 record in postseason games with the Yankees. He still has one year remaining on his contract, which runs to the end of the 2027 season.

Only time will tell what changes the Yankees make in the upcoming offseason. As for the current postseason, the Rays will take on either the Chicago White Sox or the Cleveland Guardians in the best-of-seven ALCS series.
