Aaron Judge and Team USA suffered a World Baseball Classic (WBC) final loss against Venezuela on Tuesday. Following the heartbreaking defeat, Judge claimed that he and his teammates were unable to get the offense rolling.
The USA were playing in their 3rd successive WBC final. After winning against Puerto Rico in the 2017 edition, they lost in the 2023 edition against Team Japan. They were thus hoping to avenge that loss and claim their 2nd WBC title.
Their dreams of adding another title were crushed by Venezuela. The hosts fell behind in the game as Maikel Garcia‘s sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning, and a solo home run from Wilyer Abreu in the 5th inning put Venezuela 2-0 up.
The United States did fight back a bit. A 2-run home run from Bryce Harper in the bottom of the 8th inning tied the game at 2-2. Judge would then strike out for the final out and end the inning.

The momentum did not last too long with Team USA. In the top of the 9th inning, they fell behind once again as a double from Eugenio Suarez put Venezuela 3-2 up.

While speaking to the reporters after the game, Judge opened up about the loss. The 2025 American League MVP expressed that they did not bat well.
When you get a pitch to hit, you have to be able to drive. Even if you get one pitch in a game, you got to do something with it. They executed their pitches and their gameplan. And we just couldn’t get rolling offensively.

The USA had just 3 hits in the entire game. 2 of them were from Harper, including his game-tying home run. Brice Turang was the other one who got the hit. The rest of the star-studded U.S. team was unable to have a positive impact.
Aaron Judge had a poor record in WBC knockout stages
Aaron Judge faced another disappointing defeat in his baseball career as the USA lost 3-2 to Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. The New York Yankees star struggled once again in high pressure situations and had a poor record in the knockout stages.

Judge, who started the WBC with a home run against Brazil in their opening game, had a major dip in the elimination games. As per stats provided by StatMuse, he went 2-for-11 in the elimination games and struck out 6 times while failing to record an RBI.

This is, however, not the first time he has come up short in big situations. In the 2024 postseason, he batted with a .184 average. While he did hit a home run in Game 5 of the World Series to open the scoring, he then made a huge fielding error in the 5th inning, which ignited a major collapse of the Yankees.
In the 2025 postseason, he did have a high .500 batting average. Despite this, he was unable to save his team from suffering a Game 4 American League Division Series (ALDS) exit against the Toronto Blue Jays.

I feel like you can physically see Aaron Judge’s body freeze up in big moments. I wouldn’t wish being a Yankee fan on my worst enemy. Must be infuriating
