Twenty years playing in the NFL is truly a long time and those who’ve played beyond such a count can answer that. One of those prominent names is the veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who will enter his 20th season this year in the NFL.
Up until now, retirement was at an illimitable distance but as he grew older, the quarterback realised it might not be that far. As the New York Jets’ star discussed his plans for retirement during his recent appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast.
I don’t know. I’m not sure. This one for sure. I’d like to do — I wanted to do two good ones and get a chance to retire a Jet. You know, win two Super Bowls.Aaron Rodgers said when asked how many more years he plans to play
Judging from the quarterback’s not-so-vague response, he is betting his odds on how the coming 2024 season will pan out, which in many ways will also determine his future with the Jets since he played merely four snaps of week 1 last year before suffering a season-ending injury and did not return.
Suffering a torn ACL injury at the age of 40 is certainly not easy to recover from and though the four-time NFL MVP made it possible with a full recovery, he now understands that his health comes before anything. So, for the coming season, he has decided to prioritize his health while also proving his ability by leading the Jets to the playoffs.
Aaron Rodgers’ future uncertain as Jets prepare for possible transition
When the Jets traded in Rodgers last year, they knew it was not going to be a long-term plan given the quarterback was close to turning 40 at that time. Now with him having retirement thoughts on his mind, the franchise is reportedly eyeing his replacement.
Shedeur Sanders seems to have caught their radar.
He’s a strong-armed signal-caller with stellar accuracy and precision, made potent by discretion.Pro Football Network reported
As per Pro Football Network, Sanders is most likely to replace Rodgers next season, if the latter fails to retain his old form. Despite doubts about his leadership skills, the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback is known for his arm strength and stellar accuracy– making him an ideal prospect to command the Jets’ offense.
