Aaron Rodgers pulls no punches, be it on the turf or in the public domain. Notorious for his unorthodox views on controversial topics that most athletes of his stature tend to refrain from commenting on, Rodgers has made news with his opinions. This time, the four-time NFL MVP is back in the spotlight, and for his take on transgender athletes.

In recent times, there has been a surge in the number of transgender athletes who have been competing as females in women’s sports. Naturally, they have the upper hand in terms of strength and endurance when compared to their counterparts who have been assigned the female gender at birth.

Rodgers spoke out against the transgender movement and dubbed it ‘anti-woman’ during his recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. This is the first time that the quarterback has publicly opposed the involvement of biologically male transgender athletes in women’s sports.

The trans woman movement is actually anti-woman. That’s what I mean-sports. You’re not seeing trans men dominating anything. It’s because there is a biological difference.

The quarterback’s take adds him to the category of Brett Favre and Donald Driver, former Packers players who have vehemently opposed trans athletes competing in women’s sports.

The topic has gained traction since the Olympics in Paris, where suspicion emerged over an Algerian boxer’s gender. While it was subsequently settled that Imane Khelif was born female, and no evidence exists that she has XY chromosomes or elevated levels of testosterone, the issue added friction to the ongoing debate of involving trans athletes to compete alongside women assigned the female gender at birth.

Aaron Rodgers shares a similar perspective to President Trump on this subject

Rodgers’ take comes at a time when the President has signed an executive order that prohibits the involvement of trans athletes in women’s and girls’ athletics. The bill has received mixed responses, with Democrat-led states defying the order, even though it means earning the wrath of the federal government. However, the bill is executing the wishes of millions of Americans.

As per The New York Times, a survey conducted involving individuals from all political preferences found that the majority of the general public believes that society has gone too far in accommodating transgender individuals, including involving them in women’s athletics. An overwhelming 79% voted against biological males identifying as women participating in women’s sports.

It is not just Rodgers who spoke out against this topic. Pro Football Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher sided against the involvement of trans athletes in women’s sports on the Global View podcast. He dubbed it “common sense” that only women should be playing in women’s sports.

It’s just not fair. You know, I saw a track athlete in South Carolina a couple of years ago doing the same thing, just winning every event. There’s biological differences. Men should not be competing against women. It’s not fair. It’s dangerous…

Urlacher said opposing the notion of women going up against men in sports leagues meant exclusively for them. As for Rodgers, his take is likely to set off some people. However, the quarterback is no first-timer to such incidents.

For now, he continues to contemplate his future in the NFL with no guarantee that he will be playing football next season. Rumors continue to circulate that he will be a part of the Steelers once the season commences, however, with a stalemate between the two at the moment, nothing is certain.
