Despite the best of efforts, when the New York Jets failed to replace offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, head coach Robert Saleh decided to step up. Well, that doesn’t mean he dethroned the head coach position, given one of the key roles of his position is to oversee the offense.
While the Jets had been relying upon quarterback Aaron Rodgers to compensate for the lack in their offensive coordinator role, he expressed his faith in head coach Saleh with the responsibility of the offense. The former NFL MVP recently opened up about how Saleh had been more involved in the team’s offense, appreciating his influence.

As a defensive coach, he’s been in that room a lot, but he’s been kind of sitting over to the left of me a good amount of the offseason so far. So we appreciate his influence. He’s brought some really good ideas to the table.Aaron Rodgers said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN
Many would expect the Jets’ head coach to be merely a passive observer, but instead, he is actively contributing to improving the offensive line. Rodgers hinted at several “interesting stuff” added to the offense, which will be seen in the OTAs and training camp– something that the Jets consider “pretty cool” of themselves.
Robert Saleh’s comprehensive role in Jets’ resurgence
Saleh’s additional efforts for the team aren’t just because he aims to improve the offense, especially with the return of quarterback Rodgers, but also because he is one of those employees of the Jets, who might not be with the team if the Jets didn’t end the playoff drought since 2010.
Although Saleh is being more direct with the offensive line, he is giving enough time and contribution to the defense and special teams. Last season, Saleh gave the entire responsibility of the offense to Rodgers and OC Hackett as they brought in their system and taught it to the team.

However, the moment Rodgers suffered the injury, the system collapsed and so did the offense. That’s why, the head coach is keeping himself more involved and giving suggestions from a defensive point of view.
