The Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin, isn’t unhappy with Aaron Rodgers after the overwhelming performance against the Los Angeles Chargers. In fact, he wasn’t in the mood to even make this a huge talking point.
Tomlin shrugged it off when he was asked about how he would assess Rodgers’ performance. He was then asked whether Rodgers’ subpar effort in their third straight prime-time loss had deeper meanings or if it was just a bad night. Aaron Rodgers threw for just 161 yards, one touchdown while registering two interceptions against the Chargers on Sunday night. Tomlin noted in his Tuesday press conference:
I wouldn’t chalk it up to an off night, but there are no long-term concerns.
He was later asked to clarify the apparent contradiction between saying it wasn’t just an “off night” and yet expressing no long-term concerns. He added:
I’m just not going to allow your words to be my words. That’s all. . . . Sunday night was what it was, but I have no long term reservations about his ability to play the position and play the position at a high level for us.
Rodgers said that a lot of things hadn’t been working that day, they had struggled on third downs, he had been a bit off, and had missed some throws he would normally make. He added that the team hadn’t been getting players open and that, even when they did, he failed to connect on some of those opportunities.
Skip Bayless ripped into Aaron Rodgers after the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers
Controversial sports pundit Skip Bayless took a shot at Aaron Rodgers and labeled the 41-year-old signal-caller as “washed up” and “a shell of his former self” after his poor performance against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Appearing on the show “The Arena: Gridiron” on Underdog Sports, Bayless didn’t hold back in his critique.
All I know for sure is, Aaron Rodgers is washed up. LeBron likes to call it ‘washed,’ but I’ll keep the ‘up’ on it. Washed up. That guy I saw last night was a shell of himself.

The veteran commentator went on to criticize Rodgers’ composure in the pocket and declining mobility. Bayless claimed that Rodgers has lost his courage in the pocket. He argued that no match can be won without courage, and Rodgers would rather duck and cover at the slightest bit of pressure. The pundit also mentioned how he feels that Rodgers knows that he’s far from vintage and that he doesn’t have the skills to take the hits anymore.
The Steelers, who started the season with a promising 4-1 record, have now dropped three of their last four games, slipping to 5-4 overall with some glaring issues. Their only win in that time-span came against the Indianapolis Colts, a game in which the opposing team handed them six turnovers. With Rodgers in the swansong of his career, many are wondering if the former Super Bowl MVP is running out of steam before the finish line.
Amid offensive collapse against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mike Tomlin linked to other head coaching jobs
Head coach Mike Tomlin has once again found his name circulating in connection with an NFL opening, with recent reports linking him to the New York Giants’ vacant head-coaching position.
According to ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, Tomlin would be an “ideal fit” in New York if he and the Steelers were to part ways at the end of the 2025 season. Appearing on Get Up, Greenberg highlighted the Giants’ young core as reasons the job could be one of the league’s most attractive vacancies.
That’s going to be the most desirable job for coaches out there. And I’m just going to throw a name into the conversation — Mike Tomlin. If Mike Tomlin and the Steelers, at the end of this season, decide it is time for an amicable parting, that feels like it would be the perfect spot.

— Get Up (@GetUpESPN) November 11, 2025Tomlin has been the face of the Steelers franchise for so long, having been successful with one ring and consecutive winning seasons. Though it does feel like Tomlin has a perfect base to shift, all this could be just talk like always. After all, this past January, Adam Schefter had said that Tomlin might join the Chicago Bears.
