Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Glenn started off on the wrong foot, which ended in one of the most awkward meetings in recent NFL history.

Aaron Rodgers wanted to start his relationship with new Jets coach Aaron Glenn on the right foot. Rodgers flew across the country to meet with Glenn, only to realize he was no longer required.

Rodgers went into a radio, TV, and social media silence for weeks. He resurfaced on his buddy Pat McAfee’s show on Thursday.

During the episode, AJ Hawk asked Rodgers to reveal details about his brief meeting with the new Jets coaching staff. A few days after Glenn took charge, Rodgers flew across the country to talk about their future plans, but the conversation didn’t go according to how he envisioned.

Shortly after the two sat down, Glenn rushed out of his office, leaving Rodgers in shock. He came back with general manager Darren Mougey.

That was kind of strange. I’ve flown across the country, and 20 seconds in, he goes and he leans to the edge of his seat and says, ‘So, you want to play football?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested.’ And he was like, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.’

Rodgers claimed that he didn’t have an issue with the Jets’ decision to move on from him. He wasn’t too pleased with the way Glenn and Mougey decided to deal with him. It didn’t take long for the Super Bowl winner to realize he wasn’t required back in New York.

Aaron Glenn didn’t show any interest in re-signing Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers was there to talk it out with the Jets brass, only to discover his presence in the building wasn’t warranted. They were already searching for a new quarterback and asked Rodgers how he wanted ‘the messaging’ of his release to be handled.

Rodgers felt that Glenn feared he might be overshadowed in the locker room if he were still around. However, according to his own words, Rodgers was only there to offer his help and not to butt in on how Brass wanted to run the organization.

The meeting lasted for a little over 15 minutes before Aaron Rodgers left the coaches’ office.

There was no me pleading [from my side], ‘Please have me on the team.’ I don’t want to be a part of that. It [the meeting] was already a debacle in some cases. That whole situation was crazy. That was a little rogue by the head coach.

Aaron Rodgers added

Before leaving the facility, Rodgers spoke with some of the training staff and equipment room staffers.

What’s next for both?

The Jets signed former Bears quarterback Justin Fields for two years. Fields was laid off after one year with the Steelers. Glenn was impressed by the set of skills Fields possesses.

He can really throw the deep ball really, really well. Obviously, his legs are something that’s dynamic not just in college but in the NFL, as well. I just think he’s ready to break out as a top-notch quarterback.

Fields only played six games in Pittsburgh before losing out on the starting job to Russell Wilson. In those six games, the former first-rounder completed a career-high 65.8% of his passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception, along with 62 rushes for 289 yards and five TDs on the ground.

Rodgers, on the other hand, still hasn’t decided on his future. The Steelers remain eager to make him their starting quarterback, but there’s an equal chance that the future Hall of Famer retires from football.

I’m in a different phase of my life… I’m in a serious relationship, I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention [and] I have personal commitments [that] I made not knowing what my future was going to look like after last year, that are important to me.
