The Houston Texans might end up retiring Aaron Rodgers after the underwhelming performance the Pittsburgh Steelers delivered on Monday night. Cameras caught Rodgers screaming at his teammates throughout the four quarters.

From dropped passes to fumbles and even a scoop and score, the Steelers just couldn’t handle the Texans’ defense. Honestly, the writing was on the wall. The offensive line had difficulties protecting its 42-year-old signal caller all year. It’s a minor miracle that Rodgers came away with only a left wrist injury through it all.

The Texans, meanwhile, had one of the league’s defenses, landing in the top five of the Pro Football Focus rankings. Rodgers was sacked twice, lost the ball once, and witnessed DK Metcalf dropping the easiest catch of the postseason.

Cameras caught him saying “do your f**** job” to his teammates before leaving the field.

Rodgers and his receivers had a few moments where they weren’t on the same page. Wide receiver Calvin Austin checked his route, which allowed a Texans DB to make a block. It nearly got flagged for offensive pass interference, but the ref let it go. Rodgers’ animated reaction on the bench suggested Austin missed his assignment.

The Texans humiliate the Steelers on Monday night

If the first three quarters were a slug fest, the final quarter was pure madness. Despite the Steelers’ poor performance on the defensive side of the ball, they were still somehow in the game. It all changed around the 11th-minute mark.

After Will Anderson Jr. brought down Rodgers, Sheldon Rankins picked up the loose ball and scored a defensive touchdown. Eight minutes later, rookie running back Woody Marks navigated his way through the Steelers defense to extend the Texans’ lead. A dejected Rodgers could only look on from the bench in disbelief.

To make matters worse, Calen Bullock picked off Rodgers’ pass and scored a 50-yard touchdown. The Texans handed the Steelers their first defeat on Monday night in twelve games (stretching back to 1992).

ESPN’s Brooke Pryor reported that fans inside the Acrisure Stadium booed the players after the final whistle. Mike Tomlin quickly left the field, followed by Rodgers and Cam Heyward.

In the 22nd playoff game of his career, Rodgers completed 17 passes from 33 attempts for 146 yards, threw zero touchdowns, but conceded a pick-6. In the regular season, Rodgers had 327 completions for 3322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 7 picks.

Metcalf returned for this game after serving a suspension for misbehaving with a Lions fan. His night concluded with 2 passes for 42 yards. Running back duo, Kenneth Gainwell and Jaylen Warren, jointly put up 18 carries for 63 yards.

As for the Texans, third-year quarterback CJ Stroud threw 21 completions for 250 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Jo’quavious Marks and Nick Chubb racked up more yards than the Steelers’ overall yardage. Marks rushed 19 times for 112 yards for one touchdown, while Chubb had 10 carries for 48 yards.

Veteran wideout Christian Kirk stepped up big time after Nico Collins picked up an injury. Kirk finished with 8 catches for 144 yards.

The Texans will now prepare to face the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round game in the coming days. The Pats defeated the Chargers to book a place in the next round.
