It would not surprise anyone if 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers announced his retirement after the New York Jets final game against the Miami Dolphins in week 18. His second year with the Gang Green went horribly wrong, losing twelve games for the first time in his career as a full starter.

The misery seemed it would continue when Rodgers threw an interception on the Jets’ first drive of the game against the Dolphins. However, as the day progressed, the veteran quarterback got a grip on the game.

Rodgers threw four touchdowns and completed 63% of his passes for 274 yards as the Jets secured a 32-20 victory to close out the campaign. The Jets finished with just five wins, fewer than in 2023 when he spent the entire year in rehab.

Although the Super Bowl winner has said in the past that he would love to continue for a couple more years, the decision to keep him lies in owner Woody Johnson’s hands. However, a video emerged on social media of Rodgers confessing that the Dolphins game was his last for the Jets.

Aaron Rodgers hints at what’s next for him

If Rodgers calls it quits in his Jets or possibly his NFL career, at least he is going to bow out as part of the 500-touchdown club. He sat on 499 before facing Miami on Sunday and a five-yard touchdown to tight end Tyler Conklin in the second quarter helped him reach the same bracket as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees.

After the game, FOX Sports’ Pam Oliver spoke with the future Hall of Famer and tried her best to get an answer about his future.

I’m gonna get home and relax, clear my head, get healthy from the bumps and bruises from the season, just a lot of gratitude right now. I’m not going to hold anybody up. I’ll have conversations tomorrow with the Jets to see what they’re thinking, and then we will make a decision before it gets too late in the offseason.

Aaron Rodgers told Pam Oliver.

Rodgers finished the 2024 season with 368 completions for 3,897 yards (63% completion rate), 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

When reporters asked Johnson for a reaction, he declined to comment but highlighted that the win over the Dolphins felt good. If one win can fix his relationship with Rodgers, then perhaps the Jets fans who feel optimistic about culture change would welcome the decision with open arms. Then again, the Jets bagged the seventh overall pick which can help them land a rookie quarterback for the future.
