Aaron Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, knowing they have studs in the form of JJ Watt, Cameron Heyward, DK Metcalf, and others. He knows that it takes experienced studs to win games, which is probably why he signed up to join them.

One of them, Watt, did not link up initially as he was awaiting a contract extension. After signing what has become the highest non-QB contract in league history, there was a sense of relief for the team.

Then, Heyward, the longest tenured Steeler, threw a bombshell when he asked for a pay raise after signing a three-year, $45 million contract last year.

The defensive tackle believes he deserves more and has been sitting out of practices. When he brought on Rodgers and Metcalf on his podcast, Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, they used the opportunity to roast the D-lineman over his demands.

Not about you and your money, got damn.

Aaron Rodgers said

The conversation was about their offense when the 36-year-old Pittsburgh native thought his teammates were talking about him. The wide receiver first fired a shot at Heyward, saying that everything was not all about him.

Aaron Rodgers piggybacked on that comment to troll Heyward about his contract demands. This led the 1st Team All-Pro defensive tackle to let out a hilarious reaction.

Cameron Heyward returns to Steelers practice

Cameron Heyward started his training camp holdout on August 7th. He has been adamant that his career year last season warrants a raise, and he will not participate in practice until his demands are met.

However, he knows he is the de facto leader of the Pittsburgh Steelers and arrived at the final four practices they held at St. Vincent College. As per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, he stood on the sidelines watching his teammates go through their paces.

Heyward wore street clothes, which means he was there for support rather than agreeing to whatever the team is asking him to do. He wants a contract before he puts on his pads.

The Pittsburgh native took it as a challenge when the Steelers’ top brass giggled when he signed his previous contract. He felt they did not believe he had it in him to register another standout season.

But he did notch his best season yet en route to a 4th 1st Team All-Pro selection. Now he is using that as the reason he believes they should pay him what he is worth.

No movement on Cameron Heyward’s contract demands

Cameron Heyward is looking to earn more than the $14.5 million he earns annually. The figure he is looking for might be closer to the $20 million mark, as he looks to make the most out of his last paycheck.

However, as per Brooke Pryor’s sources, there has not been any movement from the Steelers’ front office. This may signal that they are reluctant to hand their longest tenured player a renegotiation.

Heyward is still the heartbeat of a defense that has been outstanding for quite a while. That is why some of his teammates supported his desire to get a bigger paycheck. However, the team also knows that the the DT is on his last legs and is an injury or two away from retiring.

Parking additional money into his account could undermine their needs whenever they want to make a move for another impactful player. The Steelers hope this is the season they can finally move past the 1st round.

For that, they require Heyward to help the veteran defense continue to play well as Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, and the rest of the offense find their rhythm.
