Since the New York Jets fired Robert Saleh, there has been much speculation regarding Aaron Rodgers’ involvement. Although the franchise has denied his involvement, the authority given to the veteran quarterback within the organization is well-known to everyone. Amid the ongoing drama, Rodgers’ former teammate Greg Jennings gave his two cents on the whole drama.

The four-time NFL MVP has been at odds with the Jets head coach for the past few months; however, their rift only became apparent during the week 3 game against the New England Patriots. Fans have criticized the veteran quarterback immensely for seemingly getting Saleh fired from the Jets labeling it the “Aaron Rodgers effect.”

Addressing the question of whether Rodgers was involved or not, his former teammate Jennings asserted that the 41-year-old was definitely part of the decision to fire Saleh. Coming from someone who spent seven years with him in Green Bay Packers, Jennings’ words hold credibility as he pointed out the main issue that got Saleh fired in the recent episode of “The Breakfast Ball.”

That’s the biggest issue, this is all about Aaron Rodgers. And when you have empowered a player in the way that they have, and this goes from Robert Saleh to Hackett, obviously, and all the way up to Woody Johnson, because for them to have a conversation, it tells me that he has too much say, he has too much input on things that he really shouldn’t have input on.

The former Packers wide receiver even blamed the 45-year-old head coach alongside owner Woody Johnson and Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett for giving so much power and authority to the signal-caller.

Aaron Rodgers denies influence in Robert Saleh’s firing

Amid the ongoing criticism, the ten-time Pro Bowler finally spoke up about his involvement in Saleh’s firing. Rodgers referred to the head coach’s firing as “tough business,” while discarding any discord with him, during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee show.

He admitted receiving a call from the Jets’ owner but clarified that it wasn’t regarding Saleh. It was merely to check up on him since he slightly injured his ankle in the week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He called the backlash from fans a “ridiculous allegation,” and claimed that he has good relations with the former Defensive Coordinator.

Meanwhile, the Jets’ Defensive Coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has been made the interim head coach until they hire a head coach. Interestingly, Ulbrich showered high praise on the quarterback in his introductory press conference, calling him a ‘vital resource’ for the team to end the long-standing Super Bowl drought.
