Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver and The Facility co-host James Jones expressed that Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams is the worst quarterback drafted in the NFL Draft 2024 first round. The Draft Class of 2024 had six quarterbacks drafted in the first round, a record jointly held by the 1983 Draft Class.

Jones’s statements come in light of the Chicago Bears’ worsening form. After a strong start staying on par with the other teams in the NFC North, the Bears fizzled out like a firecracker. After losing against the Washington Commanders, they are currently on a three-game losing streak. The rookie has been defeated by second and third-overall Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye in the last weeks.

Speaking on The Facility, James Jones had a brutally honest admission about the young rookie quarterback. Jones explained that as compared to Daniels and Maye, Williams’ numbers just don’t add up.

Right now, as we stand, he’s the worst first-round quarterback, and that’s just the honest truth about it. Caleb Williams looks bad out there. … My man is not seeing what he’s supposed to see. My man is taking sacks sometimes he’s not supposed to take … Right now as we speak, he’s the worst quarterback drafted in the first round, and that ain’t clickbait or nothing like that. That is the truth.

James Jones said

The former wideout lambasted the rookie for missing simple throws. He also expressed concern about the rookie quarterback’s potential to grow.

(Williams) is missing simple throws… All the stuff we saw in college, he’s not doing. … At some point, we gotta see some growth. … Make. A. Play. Make. A. Throw. He’s not, and out of all the rookies, it’s the worst.

James Jones added

Williams, the No. 1 overall pick, comes off a 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, where the Patriots sacked him nine times. During the Bears’ current three-game losing streak, Williams hasn’t thrown a touchdown, has taken 18 sacks, and hasn’t reached a QB rating above 70.

The Chicago Bears’ 75-year quarterback curse looks to have caught up with Caleb Williams

Early in the month, The Chicago Bears looked solid. In his sixth game of the season, Caleb Williams produced results strikingly similar to Baltimore Ravens MVP QB Lamar Jackson. He completed 23 of 29 passes for 226 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception, achieving a passer rating of 124.4.

The Bears have long been haunted by a “quarterback curse,” a drought that started after the glory days of Sid Luckman, Johnny Lujack, and Bobby Layne. The Bears haven’t had some stability in signal calling for years since the departure of legendary prospects like Layne. The curse has extended across decades and finally bleeding into their 2024/25 season.

The Chicago Bears are in trouble – as substantiated by recent the firing of OC Shane Waldron. Several reports indicate that the Bears are now trying to save Williams and build around him. The shockingly low figures like YPA 4.93 in the last three games are a huge blow to the blueprints. Although the circumstances changed in a very dire manner, the fact that the Bears are also on the verge of becoming only the third team in NFL history to draft the first overall pick three years in a row looms behind them.
